Hey, if somebody tells you they stopped drinking, don’t tell them they should start drinking again. It doesn’t matter why they stopped, just don’t say it. You sound like one of the shittiest one-off characters on Mad Men.

To make themselves feel better about their own choices. Usually because they have not examined our society's intensely fucked relationship with alcohol.
Because I am deeply ornery, despite the fact my answer is 'I do this whenever I have had a period at work when no exercise and bad diet means I have gotten overweight', I give a deeply detailed fake answer just to make the point that people *shouldn't ask*!
This still goes even if they do drink occasionally.
I went from heavy drinking to only taking a sip when I use alcohol while cooking. I don't want a beer or a cocktail. I just want a sip when I'm making chili or tomato sauce or risotto. That's IT.
Sometimes people I don't know ask me why I've never had alcohol beyond sips of wine at Passover and such. They never seem to enjoy the answer. (It's not interesting, just depressing.)
What did they expect, a fun anecdote? Why ask?
My favorite is when they get you alone and try to give you Alcohol, like it's the people around you that's keeping you from it, and not a decision you made yourself
