Library purchases are purchases. They pay the press. The press counts them towards advances and royalties. And (gasp) the book is in a library!! It’s wonderful and no one should ever feel bad about getting a book through a library instead of buying it.

In the UK, any author registered for the Public Lending Right will receive money when their books are lent in a local authority public library.

Using the library also one of those greater good things. Library funding is usually at least partially tied to library usage. So the more you use the library, the more funding they get and the more grants they can apply for to expand collections and programs.

My life changed because of libraries shelving my books. When people ask for them, they buy them. When people check them out, they buy more. There are 125,000 public libraries in the US. If readers let those libraries know they want your books, that's a lot of sales.

I often even push harder for people to request my books from the library than I do for them to buy 'em! Because getting people to use their public library helps libraries get more funding that they use to buy more books, and be better prepared to fight book challenges, making the world better!

Yes! I’ll look for the book I want to read at my library first. If they don’t have it I’ll buy it and donate it to them. Yes, they can order it themselves but it can be a lengthy buraucratic process to get it.

My local library said they can only do with select titles because they're limited to their specific store. So not everything is available, but it definitely doesn't hurt to ask.
