6/10 games can be good games.
7/10 games can be good games.
8/10 games can be great games.
9/10 games can be amazing games.
Games that are not a 10/10 are still very much worth your time I promise. Sometimes you can find a hidden gem this way & not even know it. Scores are subjective too. ππ»

Have you need to PARADIS yet?? How do you get in?
That'd piss me off
Meanwhile, I've had a blast with Cities: Skylines 2 despite the Mixed reviews.
Cyberpunk on launch regularly got rated at least a 3, if not as high as a 5 or 6.
Fnaf: Security Breach reviews seem to regularly be 6-8, regardless of when they were published.
One of my favorite games Iβve ever played had a 6/10 as itβs best score across the publications
Most games are 5/10, that's nit saying they're bad, it's saying the game is AVERAGE and should still be fun to play.
Ask your real life friends.
Find a reviewer that seems to be on the same wave length as you.
Watch game play videos and if there is a demo try that.
Trust YOURSELF.
Granted, kids can be easier to please but I'd argue that even my kid self knew when a game was actual shit π
Many older masterpieces were panned by critics for no reason. Nowadays, there are more reviewers that take their work more seriously
New, old, I don't care as long as it's more likely to be worth the limited time I have
I look at negative user reviews on steam to learn of any issues that would frustrate me, or learn about inclusion that would excite me.
Apart from World Cup Carnival 86 on the ZX Spectrum which was an old game they just changed the name of to fleece gamers
One game many reviewers scored low was NieR. It wasn't review-friendly because you had to play it multiple times to understand its brilliance. It had to become a cult classic to gain recognition.
The success of NieR: Automata shows the concept wasn't the problem. It was the reviewers!
I also don't go tell everyone else it sucks if I think it was boring. I play plenty of games that are considered "bad" π€£
9/10 phenomenal game with maybe 1 or 2 small details that hold it back from perfection
10/10 absolute perfection, a game id reccomend to anyone
5/10 perfectly servisable game but really nothing special.
6/10 perfectly servicable game with maybe 1 or two neat ideas.
7/10 everything the game set out to do it achived, its not ground breaking, but defenetly better than the average.
8/10 freat in everything
the metrics of good with gaming is so wildly varied so as to hardly even matter
I hope more people know.
I hereby advertise "Imperialism" as my personal hidden gem. I still hope for a modern game is this perfect focus on easy systems but hard decisions.
When you arrle deciding which game to spend 80 bucks on, you want the most on your return
Companies that tie bonuses to Metacritic scores are incredibly scummy
Just unrealistic expectations in my opinion.
gameplay loop can heavily carry an experience that may not make it goty material but all in all is enjoyable, why else are we doing this except to enjoy ourselves
19 year olds: IT LOOKS DATED! TOO MANY POLYGONS
In that line of thought, what are some good 6/10 games?
I'll start:
- Buck Bumble
- Black Sigil: Blade of the Exiled
- Mega Man Soccer
- Sonic Unleashed (9/10 for me, but Metacritic disagrees)
Idk if itβs people feeling stressed on time so they wanna only play the highly coveted games which is fine butβ¦ even if it has some clear issues the meat/idea of the game can be more than enjoyable
I loved turok 2008. Dinosaurs, shoot em up, and some horror. Solid fun experience
Show me gameplay (or give me a demo) and let me make up my own mind. Graphics aren't everything -- gameplay is.
The BEST game EVER! OMG, SO GOOD I DIED then got BETTER! Try this right NOW! Do it! 6/10
As you can see, things like this make me scratch my head bald. :P
Objective quality and subjective enjoyment are not correlative or mutually exclusive things π
Review scores are meaningless!
Just enjoy what you enjoy
So thereβs no incentive to rate a game a 6 or 7.
When I get a music review- I often take a B+ more seriously than an A+ - feels legit.
A lot these are more subjective than back when
Oh Alpha Protocol, how I love thee.
My three Fs for games
βοΈ = Hated it
βοΈ βοΈ = Didnβt Like It
βοΈ βοΈ βοΈ = Liked It
βοΈ βοΈ βοΈ βοΈ = Really Liked It
βοΈ βοΈ βοΈ βοΈ βοΈ = Loved it!
And sometimes, whatβs a 6/10 for one person might be a 9/10 for someone else. π
Play weird shit.
That's three points away from perfect!
I hope someday gaming media will talk about a game, say whether or not some random writer recommends it or not, and thatβs it. They never assign it a word. They never assign it some arbitrary number. Itβs just, βhey you should play this,β and thatβs it.
I can still have fun with a game thatβs just ok, and if anything those types of games make me truly appreciate the greats even more.
Like... Psychonauts was a 7/10 at launch, so you're missing out.
Secret Weapons Over Normandy
I've had amazing experiences playing middling games with great groups.
I've played games that are ranked a 2/5 and turns out it was cause it was either review bombed, or was an unexpected play style that didn't fit the target audience. Still made for a great enjoyable game!
i've hated some highly rated games (8.8/10 for example) and liked some very bad games (5/10)
there's no point in discussing what's good and what's bad in the internet
i do feel like theres a bit of an art to deciphering the steam review % though (being able to tell whether its Mixed reviews in a good way or in a bad way)
Sometimes they wiff.
Luckily itβs still a fun game.
