More so because in Del's case it was unexpected. Some sort of underlying auto-immune disorder (actually a pair of them) that lay dormant until he had a minor infection. Then he was gone.

Always hurts. Always should.

My beloved Moose died in 2021 of an autoimmune disease. If you can imagine how hard it was to get canine antivirals in the height of the COVID lockdown, it was even harder than that. I'm still not over it.
