I remember when this came out. I was married with a 5-year-old and a 2-year-old. We were poor, but I remember the hope and belief that things would actually get better. For a while, it was headed there, now...😢

I was 10 years old with a flashlight, a book, and a transistor AM radio under the covers tuned in to a Detroit Motown station… ( I could only tune into it at night, when the signal could carry all the way down South to Falls Church Virginia)!
One of the first single records I ever bought as a little girl! My best friend & I walked down our street every day to see what new records had arrived at Gary Moon’s record store located in the little grocery store strip mall. We saved our allowance money & were good for 2-3 purchases a week.
A wonderful song by a wonderful group which always makes you feel a little bit more optimistic. But my all time favourite version is by Richie Havens - the perfect song for his voice.
There were such beautiful dreams then and we came so close but hate reared its ugly head. If we can only get that feeling back again. I think the artists of today need to step up a little and give people a big push!
Oh Dog, I loved that song! I remember when it came out. A boy at church camp almost talked me out of my jeans when that song came on the radio late one night...

The song held such beautiful promise, I was a child when this came out. But as the sad narrator drones on, "they never really did put it all together and get it all undone!"
