I’m torn between “let me make my silly little posts about my books” and “the world feels like it’s ending and this seems out of place”. I think it’s important to find joy when and where we can, but it’s becoming harder every day

I get the feeling, but that joy and those books is honestly necessary. Despair and desolation lead to giving up. Books fuel us — emotionally, with hope, with ideas — and help us keep going.
There’s some poem about the flower that breaks through concrete I’ve forgotten, but I believe it means the joy you make and give to others ultimately defeats the tragedy that caged your joy in the first place.
I saw it after the election and I've seen a bit of it the past week or so, people walking into the store and saying, "I need to cheer myself up." and then purchasing the thing they were on the fence about for whatever reason. We're all in that spot, but if we stay together, I think we can make it
Right there with you. I'm trying to balance things...I have a lot of personal stuff going on too, which makes the downfall of the country even more stressful. I try to limit my online time, but find I cant get my brain to focus on anything else.
Don't let them take your joy. You're allowed to have conflicting emotions. You can be upset at the world at large and happy that a book you wanted came in. Etc.
You can be giddy and silly about a book while also being concerned about the state of the world. Those things don't necessarily cancel each other out, okay?
Joy is still around us, we just might have to look a bit harder! I get it. I watch the news, and feel so distressed, but it's important to see and know what is going on, not to disappear into oppression! 🩷
The days YOU can’t muster up to post something fun, warm, cute, etc. is when WE post it to boost you 💜 I keep saying, we have to try to live between surviving.
Please, please don't let the current insanity steal your joy. I figured out a decade ago that I can measure my mental state by my reading. If I'm reading to block out the world entirely, that's a red flag. If I'm not reading at all and haven't in a while, I'm very depressed/burned out & need help!💙
I just created my account and post about books farely often. I also like outfit declutter pictures. Everyone is posting such important things. I just finished reading a sociology textbook and still am wondering if I am a bit too low brow for this app
I heartily concur and walked that line today while working on my "silly little book" that I fervently hope will make people laugh or, at the very least, smile.
Totally agree. Keep posting about your books. Or cute cats. Or whatever you fancy. We need to counteract all the crap going on with nice things. Keep it up!
I think "silly little posts about my books" and similar are more important now than ever? That right now is scary and hard but endings are also beginnings and we have to do our best to carry non-awful things into the world that will be born from these days. It's not just a small joy but a seed.
I do both. Info sharing, and mundane stuff. All of it. Speaking into the void, and reaching whoever resonates, when I’m lucky. Those little sparks of fellowship fuel hope.

It’s hats what everyone is fighting for.
Consider it a respite before wading back into the trenches.
