One day has zero effect. This won’t change anything if, for example, people fill up the day before or after. Stop buying from Amazon and Walmart for a year. Stop buying fast fashion. Cook at home and don’t give Pepsi and Coke your money by going to McDs or Pizza Hut.
This can be a dress rehearsal for many more calls to action. (National day of calling in sick?) Economic targets can get more specific. It's valuable to organize and practice for focused impact. Let's learn together. RESIST. #ResistandPerisist
Again, efforts focused on results-oriented actions are the only way to get their attention. This does nothing and I would posit diminishes moral when no tangible results are seen.
I'll be in Mexico. I plan to make it rain pesos and won't change that. I'm not going to punish the beautiful people of Mexico for #PresidentBoneSpurs but I can tell you, not a single US dollar will be spent and no US products will be purchased.
I was thinking that this was happening tomorrow (2/10).
LET’S DO THIS PEOPLE! TRUMUSK MUST GET THE MESSAGE: WE ARE MAD AS HELL AND AREN’T GONNA TAKE IT ANYMORE!
I've seen several on several different days. I'm doing it everyday, but if we're going to do it on a specific day can everyone somehow get on the same page??
That would be much more effective! Maybe select at least one day per month to do this? I like the idea of doing it wherein if you must buy something, do it at a small local business rather than a chain or state-wide or national business outlet!
We stopped all discretionary spending 2 weeks ago. No carve outs either. Targeted boycotts don’t move markets. Total shutdown does. Covid “pause” proved that & the orange loser was mailing us all checks. Dow futures down and tariffs paused. Go all in and #stoptthespend in defense of democracy.
Stocked up on essentials before he took his position. Full boycott 1/20-1/27.
Now we are eliminating as many purchases with RW/fascist supporting companies as possible, any discretionary = local small business/inclusive and/or donating to legal organizations protecting our country from fascists. 💪
This is awesome. Small businesses need our help. I have cut back on spending b/c nervous about economic collapse/job loss. Dumped Prime, deleted Meta apps. But more must be done. More people must commit for an impact to be felt.
Same and yes - even if we don’t have a coordinated boycott day - we have to coordinate consumer action so they know it’s not just a dip it’s us withholding our dollars and our data ON PURPOSE.
I agree but it needs to happen now and last until the war is over. One day or even one week won’t cut the mustard. I look to Ukrainians for inspiration.
It’s more strategic than that, from what I understand. The strikes will get longer. I think it’s a way to get people used to incorporating other sources into their shopping habits.

Agree, not buying anything but food. Probably will only take one vacation this year. Aside from boycotting all oligarch companies I don’t even want to support any small businesses that might have voted for Trump
That's what I'm talking about!!! We also need a day, with notification well in advance, of a National Strike Day. I call it Blue Flu Day. Meanwhile, I will pass this on to as many people as I can think of. Thanks for the info.
I’ve been doing this for a few weeks since I can’t find a decent replacement for Target in my life. I had replaced Amazon with Target a couple years ago. Now I’m just buying way less shit. Anyway, I’m IN!!
I stopped using Amazon. I no longer reflexively order online. I keep a list and run an errand when I have time. Amazon offers convenience, and while I may be lazy, I’m not surrender democracy to the oligarchy lazy. #BoycottAmazon #Resist
I will go one further - #Boycott
Your money is FAR more powerful than your vote.
Make if 4 years:
#X-Twitter - delete
#Amazon - #AWS - use IONOS - Digital Ocean
#McDonalds
#Meta - #Instagram - #Whatsapp delete
#Target
#Walmart - use Costco
#Uber - use Lyft
#Google - use Firefox and DuckDuckGo
We stopped all discretionary spending 2 weeks ago. No carve outs either. Targeted boycotts don’t move markets. Total shutdown does. Covid “pause” proved that & the orange loser was mailing us all checks. Dow futures down and tariffs paused. Go all in and #stoptthespend in defense of democracy.
However, 28 is a Friday and most low income families scrape by to pay day. Walmart is one place that's a staple to those people BECAUSE it drove out small businesses that sold those items. I am lucky I have 3 grocery stores near me. Others aren't that lucky.
Might I suggest that you don't buy anything period? There are plenty of small business owners who support trump and his actions. They shouldn't be excluded from the economic hurt.
It isn't about hurting small business as much as it is about standing together. I have a small business that does nearly 100% of my business on weekends - but I've already scheduled us closed March 15th (the 2nd action 'stay home' date.) Of course we're honoring Feb 28th as well.
I don’t plan on buying my books anymore from Amazon. If they have the book on Barnes and Nobel or an indie book site, that’s where I will go for my books!
Yes! I know, I’ve seen that. I’ve been reading more indie authors lately. So if they have any titles by indie authors, then that might be my first choice. 😊
Amen!
So I need gas in my car, I don’t buy gas on the 28th. The next day I still need gas so I buy it. How does that accomplish anything? Seriously? 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Dave, it's understandable to feel pessimistic.
The days before and after will look normal.
The 28th won't, if 1/2 the country participates.
Keep in mind, this is just one of many acts of resistance we'll need.
You don't need to go shopping. Look around your house for what you need. Do without. Get enough to survive. Ask a neighbor if they have an extra whatever it is you need. Don't give the oligarchy any more money.
I think the point is to show a massive one day decline in economic participation. I just meant that because I already do this, I won't be part of that significant one day impact. But I do hope that tens of millions are! 😁
1/ Like this idea! Just buy bare necessities. Here are companies to boycott that donated to Trumps campaign.
Elon Musk: $290 million
Timothy Mellon: $150 million
Adelson Clinic for Drug Abuse Treatment & Research: $106 million
Linda McMahon of WWE: $16 million
Hendricks Holding Co: $15 million
2/ Bigelow Aerospace: $14.1 m
Laura & Issac Perlmutter Foundation: 12.4 mill
ABC Supply: $11 mil
Cantor Fitzgerald: $11 mil
Uline: $10 mil
Pratt Industries: $10 mil
British American Tabacco: $10 mil ,
Southern Waste Systems: $9 mil
Elliott Management: $7 mil
If you can’t join in person here are some additional days to do economic protests. Call every company you do business with and ask what they’re doing to protect your data, or safety. Make these big companies take a position in this fight. Put on the pressure. Sign up for: https://generalstrikeus.com/
I’ve stopped buying already. Only getting the bare essentials for survival. I will NOT support the corporations behind MAGA fascists! Get your hands out of my wallet, Big Grocery! 😡
I'm in! I refuse to support trump's economy, and I am only purchasing what I need. I was planning on this and replaced older small appliances in anticipation of trump and his tariffs. I also plan on driving my car until trump is gone or the wheels fall off.
Resist! 🔵💪
The real problem with this is that it really doesn't work, since many people will stock up before and afterward, so they just miss a day and these giant conglomerates can afford to skip a day like it's "Leg Day" at the gym...
I do this most of the time! I know it can be hard at times. It's time for everyone to do this on a regular basis!!! Buy local as much as possible. Forget the big box stores...
Pointless ineffective weak sauce. non action.
Refile your w-4 w as many exemptions to offset your income. Don't pay taxes to this regime. Pay it on the next.
What is your idea? You must have one, since your comment is cynical. Let people know your plan. People are attempting something, anything to stop what's going on. You?
I was hoping someone would get this idea out there. YOU have the power people let’s take back our country. Just one day of this will bring them to their knees. Please 🙏 recognize this day 2/28/2025!
You did not ask my opinion, but I think acting like a Christian is more important than a bio with Christian in it. Have a wonderful Sunday. Stay mindful, everyone.
Acting like a Christian has nothing to do with this post.
No, we shouldn't give money to these places for their bad business practices, BUT we've known for years about their bad morals. This isn't about Christian morals.
This is a tall order on a Friday where low income families do their shopping.
You don’t buy on the 28th and make up for it on the 1st. One day means nothing. Restrict your buying to only necessities the whole year - they will feel it and you’ll save a lot of money
of course that is a given but also if we all do it on the 28th they will notice us doing it. I have already pared down what i need. i made some cloth un-paper towels so I will not be buying any paper towels.
That's what the billionnaires are counting on: we are incapable of not consuming. They spent billions on Trump's campaign convincing dumb shits prices were Biden's fault while declaring record profits in their own bususinesses and reporting in their Quarterly Reports the profits were "price driven".
This will make a difference ladies and gentlemen! Please spread this far and wide.
It truly works, ask Target, they have lost 15.7 BILLION since Trumpy’s DEI..
Would this have been more effective on a Saturday or Sunday when people at not stuck at their desks and are usually out shopping either for groceries or fun?
This is a minimal ask. I've already made this a norm in my life, except gas, which I buy from the least expensive place in town. Everyone here should be boycotting all the rest, every day. In addition, none of us should be having anything to do with Zuckerberg, or Bezos.
Bravo!! I haven't been on mine for about 10 years. Except to try deleting it, of which the process pissed me off so much I gave up. Instead, I blocked all advertising categories and anyone spewing Republican garbage. I guess I should go back and attempt deletion again :/
Unfortunately, in my town, I have very little choice. There is Walmart, a grocery that has decent fresh foods, and sometimes good sales and a grocery story that I would not buy fresh meat from and usually have much higher prices. We have few options here.
i am in an area like that also. I am wondering have you noticed less people in your walmart? the one i go to for my bank 2 weeks in a row has had very few cars in the lot. the store seems more deserted than it usually does.
I've seen a decline in cars at our local Target when I drive by. Makes me want to stop there and glare at anyone walking in lol. I do live where there are many local alternatives. We've started buying from Costco online for as much as we can. Even groceries. Shipping is free over a certain amount.
I know there are many people in the same situation as you. And that's ok. We all do what we can. And you're here on this platform. So there's that 🥰 My comment was not meant to be all encompassing.
Also in a rural community. I shop local when possible &make monthly trips to Costco but we still end up relying on Amazon to get the free shipping. Else we wouldn’t be able to get many necessities- big BUT- I call my senators & Reps multiple times a week, march, email, post to public page etc
I totally get that. So, my strategy for Amazon, when I have to use them, is placing an order for one item at a time, to maximize the cost to Amazon. Also, I usually search for the same product elsewhere first. Many sellers offer free shipping now. Thanks for doing what you can 🥰
Everyday! We stopped all discretionary spending 2 weeks ago. No carve outs either. Targeted boycotts don’t move markets. Total shutdown does. Covid “pause” proved that & that loser was mailing us all checks. Dow futures down and tariffs paused. Go all in and #stoptthespend in defense of democracy.
No Gas, no fast food, and definitely nothing from places like Target, Walmart, or Amazon.
Get the word out!
We want THEM to see that WE have the power
We will start with 1 day, then 3, then specific companies until our message is heard.
Please spread the word!
Thank you!

Economic Blackout on February 28, 2025
Take Part & Share the News
If you haven't heard, there will be an economic blackout February 28th, nationwide.
This means don't buy ANYTHING unless it's from a small business…contd.
I am loving these grassroots movements. Will spread!
Call your legislators red or blue and let them know what’s on your mind. This is a tool recommended by the Meidas Touch Network who says calling makes politicians cave more than emails.
I've been suggesting this for years... mostly for shit hole states like texASS. Just boycott anything made or shipped from texASS and don't buy ANYTHING made there. Nationwide is even better. We really could bring them to their knees by all of us not paying out fed taxes by the deadline.
We are living off our pantry. Has been fun coming up with “work w/ what you have” recipes. My mom is actually enjoying it. We are committed to #stopthespend. Live in a red state so our $$$ is our loudest form of speech and they can’t arrest, fire or dox us for not contributing to the economy.
It is our greatest power. Dow futures tanked & he caved on tariffs. We stopped all discretionary spending 2 weeks ago. No carve outs either. Targeted boycotts don’t move markets. Total shutdown does. Covid pause & that loser mailed us all checks.Go all in & #stoptthespend in defense of democracy.
START NOW. Stop buying ANYTHING you don't need; some exceptions: very ethical, pref. local, POC-owned, businesses. Dollars are power.
Ppl are in, with ❤️s & shares everywhere I share it. LIKE! SHARE! We got this. Takes 3.5-5% of us. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YJSehRlU34w
Unless the system changes and government or the like, takes over these large corporations, we as the people will always lose. U can stop for a day but they are still rich. They know you need the jobs just as much. They’ll just wait. One day won’t matter. Then they’ll close the loss down open online.
What is our message?
This needs to be specific and intrinsically tied to the action.
Failing to do so risks cooperation of our efforts by others, whose agendas may be opposed to ours.

Another tool in tool box.

You might be able to find some small businesses online … you could order stuff from Costco online…
The point being, a day of economic boycott is only a self-inflicted inconvenience.
More performative than anything else. Seriously, is Amazon going to be hurt if we don’t buy cheap Chinese tupperware one day in a year?
A shopping boycott that is targeted at one enterprise and backed with media has a better chance. E.g. the Bud Light boycott.
I don’t see how this boycott all assholes for a day builds up. But I’ll refrain from purchase that day.

My goal is to bankrupt this trump economy
Stop with all online transactions. Shop local, pay with cash. Paper file your taxes. Join a credit union. Create jobs.

This is a tall order on a Friday where low income families do their shopping.
Friday is a very typical payday, and low income families always dive to the store on those days.
I know I've been one of them. Lots of communities Wal-Mart is the only grocery store.
I'm saying WE that can, just don't shop at these places at all. Ever.
