Anecdote isn't data but I know a ton of people (who obv know I'm in media) and just switched off CNN/MSNBC bc they don't want to hear and see him. They'll be back when the Virginia gov race heats up in 9 months.

I'm one of these people. If my husband turns it on, I quietly leave the room. No complaints from me. I'm not going to give TFG or traditional media my attention. I'm tired of being outraged. Not spending my energy on this.
I'm not going to learn anything new listening to Trump. He's going to say something insane. Tom Cotton is going to lie about it. Douthat is going to write some op-ed that tries to rationalize it. Erick Erickson is going to smarm about how liberals don't get it. Dogs will wear sunglasses bc reasons.
Its not just Trump I have no interest in listening to. Its the media ecosystem around him that is going to try its level best to pretend that Trump wanting to add dwarf tossing to the Olympics is not the most insane fucking thing we've ever heard.
Yeah, I'm trying to check out for awhile. I feel a little guilty about it, but what am I supposed to do? This is what the country wants, and I don't know how to convince or reason with people who fell for all that. I'm sure there's a way, but I do not have that skill.
They would get us back if they reported on him rather than running video/photos/audio of him. And, cut out the inane panel speculation discussions--hire reporters, use their reporting on screen.
Yep I went from listening to MSNBC all day while driving, sometimes 4 or 5 hours and one day to not listening or watching at all. And I don't blame MSNBC at all it's nothing they did it's just I can't handle it.
Also his first term, every other week there was hope a watergate -level scandal was on the cusp of breaking so we could be rid of him. Now it’s “who cares”
We want to hear news, not BS commentary filtered through a corporate lens. New platforms are emerging that are far more trustworthy. @democracydocket.com

National news will show a broad SoCal map with a fire icon. But if the fires were in NYC they’d have street by street maps with DETAIL and mention intersections. F that. Get a local LA TV news app.
Count me as one. I went from watching 2-3 hours a day of MSNBC to literally zero since Election Night. I put CNN on for NYE and that's it. Also gave the follow list a cleanse.
This is definitely true. I'm a freaking junkie and a career political professional, but I can't take 2 things: 1) absurd Republican extremism and 2) weakling Establishment Dem response. That combination makes me ill.
This is true with most people in my circles - they’ll read the news and are informed but shut down cable news and all opinion shows. Some local news is it, can’t stand the face or voice.
You're right about the first part. But based on my personal experience, I don't think people aren't going to go back to cable news because of an election.
I cut out cable news in 2019, I didn't feel a benefit from watching. Elections didn't alter that calculation for me at all, it was factored in.
I used to faithfully watch MSNBC
for years. I canceled cable and
I haven’t watched any news programming since Election Day
My 50th bday is on 1/20 and I feel sick just thinking about it
This is not where I thought we’d be and I’m not okay
Last time I heard him was Sunday night football in that weird ad he did before the election. He looked very unwell! But I can’t stand the sound of his voice. Hope I never hear it again
Honest question: do we feel like the daily outrage constrained him during his first term? The women's marches, the resistance Twitter accounts, the Mueller stans, etc? Or did they just fuel a notion among Republicans of Trump derangement syndrome? I'm genuinely asking, I don't know the answer.
I find that seeing his face/hearing his voice make my blood pressure go up. I've stopped watching/listening to news and gone to just reading. Tbh, I feel more fully informed now than before.
I have zero desire to listen to Joe and Mika after they sucked up to Trump, and even Abby Phillip is grating since she lets her panels be taken over by Trump apologists.
Yep! I used to love the evening MSNBC shows, but I can’t stand to see or hear his voice. It pulls me right back into the fear, rage and sadness I felt after the election. I’m trying to pay attention to what’s going on, but more “News Lite” so I don’t lose my mind. 🫤
Yeah, we can all keep up with Trump quite walking without Legacy Media’s constant dry-humping of Trump. Lord knows your outfit can do it too (and I subscribe to Semafor, to keep up without assisting the rest) …
I stopped listening to news in the car, especially when my wife was with me, because any time they played a clip of Trump speaking, she would literally scream.
I'm one of them. I haven't watched a cable news show since the election. I turn the channel anytime I see Trump's face. Watching TV isn't going to help defeat fascism. The networks normalize Trump, and they'll normalize the country's slide into autocracy.
i tuned into cnn for the first time in months because i wanted to see hegseth's questioning, but i would have turned it off the second the talking heads came out. i can't watch them normalize and whitewash fascism with their commentary anymore.
i gave every political podcast i listened to one post election listen then deleted all but 'pod save the world'. i can promise you i won't be back until midterms. what the fuck am i gonna do with a virginia governor race?
It’s a useful defense mechanism, too. After all, Trump uses chaos to feel like he’s doing something. So we know he will try to make everyone feel his chaos - but very little of it matters.
I’m likely going to erase this app again on Inauguration Day. I’m not even sure I can attend professional conferences for fear of hearing his name. I haven’t watched news since the summer Biden mauling.
If they are hoping for another four years of avid viewers because of Trump, I’m not giving it to them. You can’t install Henry VIII and profit from it. I’m sad America is doing this to the world.
I am among those forfeiting cable news for now. I love a lot of the msnbc anchors, but I honestly cannot deal with seeing the incoming administration’s faces and hearing their voices. They are all grotesques to me. I am not happy about this choice, but I need to practice some self preservation.
Not just that I don't want to see him, but what does one gain/learn from watching those channels? With a couple of exceptions, their coverage is not informative. I'm just angry and annoyed by the end - giving up cable news has probably done wonders for my mental health.
Add in that their offerings have simply gone downhill. I'm old, so remember working, coming home & watching PBS Newshour, & moving on w/the evening. It wasn't a bad way to live.
No we won’t be back. You don’t get it. It’s not that we are taking a break. It’s that corporate media has completely lost our trust forever. We’re done.
My mom used to have MSNBC on literally all the time as background noise. She switched over to the Hallmark Channel this December because, "the news is just too depressing."

CNN and MSNBC is just talking to liberals of most stripes.
I cut out cable news in 2019, I didn't feel a benefit from watching. Elections didn't alter that calculation for me at all, it was factored in.

There are more than enough podcast out there to enjoy on my own time with no ads.
Don't even have to throw it on during Election Night anymore, people are going live.
I'll listen to news podcasts but def do 15 second skips whenever they play clips of him. I'd rather hear about mattresses in fact.
But this whole “media blackout“ for two days as some sort of show of force against Trump is one of the dumbest things I’ve heard recently
And I do it with the sound off.
I absolutely will not subject myself to the sound of his voice, but enjoy their legal analysts and most of their political analysts.
