I have a small announcement.
I've never been fond of my name and long thought of changing it. But now I've decided I no longer wish to be associated with the person I was named after so I'm giving myself a new name. I'm going to slowly transition away from Kelly, so starting now, I am Saimi.

Thank you for sharing this exciting news with us!
If you don’t mind my asking, how did you pick the name? I have noticed that you study (perhaps speak) Japanese. Does you name have a specific meaning in Japanese?
I came across it while looking for character names for my novel and loved it right away.
thank you!
Then at some point(s) they can claim how they wish to be identified
Principle: no human can be 'owned' by another, we have no rights over them whatsoever in perpetuity, things go bad when we deny that
May it bring you peace and comfort.
I never felt like it was mine and now it’s not!
Yay for us! 💜
(Is the name a variant of saima or some similar root word? This I've heard often in India)
specially when they sound similar to other ones ^_^
The name Saimaa might derive from an ancient, lost language spoken here. Rock art (~5k years old) at Saimaa reminds us of those ”lost” cultures. See alt text!
On the etymology of Saimaa in Finnish from our Institute for the Languages of Finland:

Also the usage in India might be of islamic origin, but yeah I love fonding words converging/diverging across languages.
Thanks for the link :)
