i want my toast to be crispy on the outside but still a little mmmmmoist on the inside, and if that unsettles you, then we just like different kinds of toast

A crispy exterior and soft interior is key for toast. Anyone who wants toast that is dry throughout just wants stale bread.

But toaster-oven toast with cheese on it during the toasting (impossible with toaster) also retains a lot of moisture.
what they want is ... a sheet of crouton?
Plus, you can add toppings/make French toast directly inside while it toasts!
But the important question is:

I think we can ALL agree that none of us have anywhere near enough kitchen counter space for all the gadgets we want.
