Man, That’s a pretty tame cartoon. If THATS the beginning of what we’re gonna start censoring, then get ready and buckle up. it’s gonna be a long bumpy ride of suck.
An expression I first heard when I moved to New England in 1971 is appropriate here, "half in jest, whole in earnest". This cartoon is not a joke--it is truth-telling of the highest order, done in the form of a cartoon. Shame on the Post and congrats to Ms. Telnaes for having integrity!
Every day the @washingtonpost.com reminds me that cancelling my subscription was the right thing to do. I was happy to pay $8/month to support @anntelnaes.bsky.social
This was my last straw. I've been a loyal reader of the Washington Post for many years. So despite all the horrid occurrences of late, it's been hard for me to let go. But I will cancel today.
It's good to see left-wing journalists face accountability. Three cheers for capitalism, the patriarchy, free enterprise and traditional Christian values. People forget that the turbulent 1960s ended with Richard Nixon in charge! Daddy's home!
This is not a joke, Ms Swisher.
This is precisely what Sam Altman (Open AI CEO), Bezos (Amazon & @washingtonpost.com ), Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook/Meta) Patrick Soon-Shiong (the owner of The Los Angeles Times) and the Walt Disney Company are doing. Right?
@anntelnaes.bsky.social is brilliant.

Boycott CNN January 19 and 20. There has to be a show of force to let legacy media know that there is power in numbers.
Looking for millions of people to shut off CNN cable, streaming and Sirius. If results get traction, look to expand these actions.
Ya know a joke is too close to the truth when it is banned by people in power. That is the joke that needs to be understood. This cartoon needs to be shown and will be the picture that explains our next few years.
The Post embarrasses itself on practically a daily basis now. It’s no wonder journalists can’t leave fast enough. Sad to see an institution like it self destruct.
Precisely.
Major schadenfreude at how this has backfired on all the weasels concerned.
Bezos now looks worse than this cartoon ever could have ever made him look.
But I nonetheless cancelled my WaPo subscription.
Fuck them, indeed.
Jeff Bezos is obviously one of the billionaires with an offering to the dear leader depicted in this great cartoon. A no-go for someone trying to please Trump and get on his right side.
Hmm…I am oddly confused by the confusion. The cartoon is the joke. Apparently, big bad billionaires are too precious to have a simple cartoon mildly teasing them (ie can’t take it, so fuck ‘em)
What was your point? If it’s that they can’t take a joke…but her image wasn’t a joke…and so it shouldn’t be called a joke…what is the point of your comment?
It's amazing how thin skinned these Titans of Industry are. In time, this too will pass. Bravo to Ann Telnaes for having more courage in the pen she wields than these awful men do with all of the power they wield. Good will always overcome evil in the end.
And what an excellent one to go out on (click on the story to see the whole image - the top half is subtle and perfect). Glad I unsubscribed last August when the Trump sanewashing was off the charts
@davidcorn.bsky.social , also disturbed by this situation, posted a letter of explanation from the editor. The explanation adds context (i.e., other editorials they published / plan to publish re: this issue) but leaves questions. Worth a read before judging.
PS: It’s the truth they can’t handle.
they are shallow human beings no sense of humor no ethics no morals just a chicken shit of a man...to think they fall in line with a carnival barker....god forbid if these guy s were to have to stand up to Hitler we would be like Russia today just voicing a opposition you would be dead
great response. Keep on doing lords work. Especially needed when i look at the US nowadays. I am pretty sure you can start calling the US a system run by oligarchs at this point.
Btw Herb Block is spinning in his grave right now, along with Katharine Graham, Ben Bradlee and Meg Greenfield and Mary McGrory. I knew all of them back in the day and they all had guts and, yes, swagger that is long gone.
The real issue is that the major media outlets are owned by corporations & billionaires who have bigger commercial interests elsewhere.
Bezos will care about “free speech” and “the forth estate” only if it doesn’t impact on his bigger cash cows businesses.
We've always had $$$$$$$$. Katharine Graham was a multi-millionaire. There's always been money as a driver. But this level of capitulation is beyond beyond.
“Lacking swagger” seems to be a good description of these tech bros+Bezos. Their attempts at “swagger” come off as self conscious, grubby and “try hard”. Maybe it’s generational or just a lack of broad life experience. Ben Bradlee would not be impressed with Trump, or any of these guys.
Is everyone ready to delete their FB and Amazon accts right NOW? No? I didn’t think so. Anyone else see the problem?🙄 No more finger pointing unless we’re willing to stop being complicit. (No FB/Prime for me & yeah, it’s hard to boycott them)
I don’t think people are prepared for Musk when he’s a trillionaire, which is not far away. Imagine how much damage he will do with such power
@karaswisher.bsky.social
Time for creation of a non-profit public trust corp, with shares of common stock, like the Green Bay Packers. Just imagine 1 mil shares sold at $1,700 (10X a 1-yr WaPo digital sub) to raise $1.7 billion, enough to buy from Bezos, or crush him with a competitor, to lure away the best Post staffers.
These are moments when I miss dearly the comedians who have passed on like Robin Williams and George Carlin who spoke up for free speech, and wonder 🤔 what they would be saying at moments like this.
I pulled my subscription when WaPo didn’t run the Harris endorsement. At the time, you (and others) pointed out that would hurt good journalists. I saw your point and had been considering starting the subscription up again despite my reservations. But now…I’m waiting for new ownership.
This is proof positive we're on the right track. They'll tell you exactly what they're afraid of by simple infantile knee-jerk reactions like this, censoring, banning and legislating against, that's where you go for them, straight to the jugular, but it requires unity.
And let's get her syndicated and out of the WashPo, so she can CONTINUE TO MAKE TRUTHFUL STATEMENTS. Each one of these CEO's have contributed to his campaign and/or to his inaugural party.
Sad, I remember the Washington Post of my childhood and my neighbor Mr. Barry Sussman, the city news editor during the Watergate break in, they had values, courage and truthfulness.🙏🏼Another era.
Billionaires can’t have their cake and eat it too. Yes, they get the money and access to power but they don’t get respectability too. Keep at journalists and cartoonist

Clearly separate reporting and opinion as much as practically possible.
Do not fill articles with fluff words.
I’d pay a lot for something that delivered on that.
Why else would you not run this political satire cartoon? 🤷♀️

But then, Bezos is driving the purchase price lower and lower.
When the shift occurs watch them scramble on their jets and boats.
Right?

@cnn.com used to be respected all over the globe. No more.
From down here in New Zealand, this has prompted me to cancel my digital subscription too.

Joke them if they can't believe how wonderful a good fuck is...
That caricature is a dagger that reveals the homage that these billionaires pay to the autocrat.
Political cartoon ≠ joke
Oh those Trumplike “Christians”.

Can't be offending the Dear Leader Jeff with things like the truth
