President Donald Trump has said that automakers can avoid his tariffs by simply moving production to American plants. It’s not that easy – not by a long shot: https://cnn.it/3Dz7qY1

It will never stop being funny that of all the industries he could've chosen, he chose the poster child of fully globalized supply chains. It's amazing how this guy just doesn't know shit.
Yes. It would take years and billions to relocate production to the US and the cost structure would make US cars prohibitively expensive. A Ford F150 would be $200K+ And you’d still need 🇨🇦’s aluminum.
Why are we wasting 💰 and resource🛢 and waste like at junk yards Making new cars every year is really a big waste of resources♻️ why not every three years⁉️
Trump is the same dipshit who thought that the entire city of Seoul could simply be moved further away from the border with North Korea.
It would be like suggesting that New York City be moved away from where it is.
Complete fucking idiot.
Why would they, when they can just increase prices as much as possible and blame the government? Trump just gave them the best possible excuse to increase prices, and blame the government for it
Nobody including Americans TRUST 🇺🇸.
They may shut existing car manufacturing factories in 🇺🇸 due to much higher costs and delays. As is, consumer loan delinquency is heading higher than history. Pins and needles time
Trumps as thick as pig shit. How did someone so dumb ever get to be President? Oh I know! He was voted in by fcking moronic Rednecks. Instead of making America great again, he's systematically tearing it apart.
RIP America
There any podcast or article existing to explain why such production can't be brought back to the US? Does this defy the laws of economics? Is it analogous to not being able to extract the milk, eggs, flour and butter into its original form after the cake has been baked? Any comments?
Never worked at a car factory, but I have worked to setup factories for baked goods. It takes months of planning to plan and retool lines. I assume cars exponentially more complicated and would require much more time and $
Auto execs know it takes 8-10 years to build a new plant from the ground up, and abandoning existing plants which are still very viable is a horrible business decision. They know Trump and his tariffs will be long gone before new plants can be built in the US, so they will just wait him out, again.
If production would move entirely to the US, after many years of Canadian government money aiding them, you will never see another American made car sold in Canada. US automakers know this.
So what does Trump know? The man fails at everything! Taking the entire Country down with them with their pissing contest, "tariffs!" Can someone please let Trump know he lost the tariffs war!
Sure they can it will only cost consumers billions of dollars to do that but if you have to pay a lot more money for virtually everything isn't it worth it?
On tariffs. Story of Mrs Bernsteins chickens. How much are you charging for chickens. $1 per pound.
But Mrs Goldstein down the road is changing 75 cents.
Then go and buy Mrs Goldsteins chickens.
Well problem is Mrs Goldstein doesn’t have any chickens.
Same as Aluminium and steel.
What manufacturer would invest hundreds of millions of dollars to build a plant in this highly unstable American economy that operates on the whims of a mentally unstable dictator?
Trump:The Dunning-Kruger effect, type of cognitive bias in which people believe they’re smarter, more capable than they are. Low-ability people don’t possess skills to recognize own incompetence. Combination of poor self-awareness, low cognitive ability leads them to overestimate their capabilities!
That ignores the reality that if they do they'll be paying import tariffs on components and materials, and there will likely be tariffs (in response from other countries) on any vehicles they export. All in all, it's highly unlikely those exported cars would be competitive.
Sounds like a good idea, Apple will have to build some factories everywhere if they want to avoid crazy tariffs? Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Poland, Sweden...
The world has to move everything away from the US because blackmail is not a form of negotiation. Just watch how China is going to walk in and take it all from the US. They are just sitting there silently and watching the way Trump is giving them everything they wish for.
It would take at least a decade to restore car manufacturing in the US but would be truly possible if we had National healthcare for All.
It would allow for Union manufacturers to become competitive...rather than this tariffs nonsense with our allies.
I was just watching Jake Tapper and some republicans on his panel. Do they not know that Canadians are now united against the USA. The world is united against the USA. Putin is your only friend. Trump has ruined America’s relationships with your allies. He’s a nutcase. He’s batshit crazy. Good luck
And Pete hegseth has proved himself to be a racist, sexist, brainless lump. Much like his adored trump. What a world. Don’t get too close to this bunch of losers.🤡🤡🪓🇨🇦
I don’t believe that has anything to do with it because the auto makers themselves have told Donald Trump that this is a failed policy. It isn’t going to change anything. I think it’s just a big distraction. The tariff war is simply to keep the media busy. A shiny object
The Democratic Party is at rock bottom. Voters are furious. Leadership is MIA. Trump and Musk are running the show. Some Democrats are fighting back, not enough. Time is running out. This isn’t just a crisis, it’s a reckoning. Will they step up or fall apart?
"Americans broadly understood how much their 1930 tariff, along with other protectionist and isolationist measures, did to turn a global economic crisis into another world war. Thirteen successive presidents all but vowed never to repeat those mistakes. Until Donald Trump”
This man lives in a fictional world, and that stupid show he had is to blame! It made it look like he was a business genius, and he believed it all! To him moving auto production to American plants is like turning on the big faucet in California, which really went well! 🤣
I'm an engineer. I've helped build plants all over the world. It takes 3-5 years, assuming you have infrastructure ready to go: roads, power, sewage, workers, water, gas, etc.

Do they stop driving American cars when they give up their automotive industry because Trump demands it?
It would be like suggesting that New York City be moved away from where it is.

you forgot that part
Stop calling him "President".
Felon-elect works for me.

Or just build a new one? I guess that’s easier. What are we talking? 6 months and $150k? Then find and train thousands of people?
I’m sure GM would be all over that.

There are plenty of other markets out there.
That's not how reality works.
Make the tariff increases permanent, move your production back to America. We'll find the worker somewhere.
Vote your best interests 2026!!!

Obama.
That's who shipped out the jobs.
Many call it the uniparty.
Other countries can do it too ... he's so stupid.
