I haven't started vocal training because no one has been able to explain to me how to develop an androgynous voice, and I look too much like a girl anyway. I'm very demotivated.
Heya I'm a trans voice teacher and I have to point out that lots of the people that succeede with "unorthodox" methodologies are the people with better intuition and possibly even a "biological predisposition" towards success at least as compared to other people. There are ways to do it with
that's really only good advice if you have good intuitive muscle control
if you don't have any direction or inkling what to do with your actual throat and just start speaking without direction it doesn't necessarily accomplish exactly what you want
I’ve been reluctant to open that can of worms because I don’t want to give myself another thing to feel bad about. Like, I think my ability to ignore voice-based dysphoria will plummet if I actually start to try to alter my voice.
The best advice I can give you, if you decide to try, is record your voice as you go along. It'll be difficult having to hear your voice at first thinking it's no good, but it'll feel so much better when you can go back to them and see irrefutably how much progress you've made.
Sadly I’m both lazy and a perfectionist. Unwilling to put in the work because the results will be short of perfection. Even coming out wasn’t about courage so much as manoeuvring myself into a position where the only way out was through.
We've all been both things. But take it one day at a time. I've been on HRT for three years and my voice went from monotone and deep to colorful and bright.
I am very lazy but it takes time. Glad you came out and your voice is better than you think. Take it one day at a time.
I think it's kind of like this for me too. I have ADHD and remembering things is brutal. That said, when I do remember I give it my all, but that has limited effectiveness. A couple minutes every hour is really really good and will get you far.
I’ll admit I once saw someone post something like “relationship level unlocked: Emily* will now use her boy voice for jokes with you” and I kinda want to be able to switch between registers for funsies.

I've been considering voice surgery for a long time now for the same reason tbh... I've had voice training for more than a year with barely any results; If you don't have any voice talent or singing flexibility you're basically fucked is what I'm thinking.
From what I’ve read it does seem like having prior vocal experience/singing does give you a leg up, you’re basically starting at 1 rather than 0, but it’s not an impossible hurdle.
