my rural local news put up a post asking what people thought of the halftime show and this little old white lady commented “I didn’t get it but I’m old. I hope the young people had fun. I liked his pants and his jacket. 💕”

Not aimed at me, so... unsurprising I didn't get it. Someone explained the clever imagery of an American flag built on Black backs, with songs echoing old spirituals with hidden instructions for those escaping slavery.
79 old white suburban lady that loved it 😊 yes all about those sexy pants and the “move your feet choreography”. I didn’t know there was a message at the start but i got it by the end. And Serena in those high tops was owning that stage.
Good job, smart job by Kendrick & his group,
One of the most freeing days of your life is when you realize that you have aged past being the target demo. You just slough off the need to criticize pop culture!
If I’m being honest I’m older and a bit out of touch but wise enough to see the symbolism and do some internet searches. If you’re confused, first see if you have a smart phone in your hand. If you do, use it to unconfuse yourself. Ignorance is a deliberate choice.
I’m Still learning daily 🫶🏼
Hugs 💕 I once heard an older white lady go on and on and on about how nice the Obama family seemed. So many good people out there. I know I didn’t get it all either but the artistry and talent of it all had me blown away! Bravo.
I feel the exact same. I'm not versed in the details of the beefs- howmever- I can appreciate the superb delivery of the messages. The choreography was flawless and inspiring!
I didn’t say word to our friends about the fact that I loved the jeans he was wearing. I didn’t quite get it all, but I wanted to so I googled and read what it was all about and I’m on board 100%!
Good for her. I made peace with the fact that I’m clearly not the target audience for half-time over a decade ago. And that’s fine. Not everything has to be aimed at me. Gives me time to do some extra cooking and take a leak.
Those pants are maybe a code for something too? The nostalgia of going back to a time before social media and actually interacting with others. We need to move offline more and create more meaningful relationships.
I googled the Drake/Kendrick thing cuz I was seeing it so much & abt 3 sentences into what was billed as a summary of long-running dispute, I lost interest.
I’m old, I thought. Way past caring abt this stuff & that’s good, actually. I can do other things with my time!
I was once watching vh1 with grandma, 90s grunge act Babes in Toyland were on and I mentioned that the singer was my neighbor. Her comment? “I bet she’d make more money if she pressed that dress”
It was a quite rumpled time lol. My gran asked several times with slight variations in obliqueness and tone, if pop stars no longer made enough money to afford new clothes.
In the 90s many of us threw away our irons - parents just couldn't cope with that. My mum used to spend hour ironing clothes and there we were throwing our irons away!! Something she'd dreamt of but the reality was just too much for her.
I remember my Dad making a remark about Stevie Wonder around time of Master Blaster saying that he looked like a smart young man in the 60s, but now he looks like a freak.
I'm 80 and would have loved to see his show, but for the first time in my adult life I would not watch that puss colored tyrant spending $24m to sit with his cronies and pout
I’m old, white, and live in the boonies but as soon as he jumped up on that 80’s Cutlass with that opening line I knew what was about to go down. Old isn’t an excuse. It’s power.
Angry people are more likely to bother making themselves heard. Think about how much effort you put into posting reviews of a restaurant when they screw up vs when they are just ok vs actually had a good time.
I'm old. Often grumpy. But that's not the fault of younger people; there are several dead politicians who did that to me.
And I'm bitter, but not racist, sexist, or transphobic. Just bitter. My grandparents' generation could have left us a better world. My parents', too. I wish I *could*.
I could literally feel my heel getting caught in the back hem and the worry as to whether I was going to hit the ground chin first or if I could play it off.
It really is that easy. There are many things about people younger than me that I do not understand. And what I do about that is I do not engage with the things.
I’m of an age where I need subtitles to understand what they’re saying on tv but the folks who could hear and understand the show loved it, so now I’m going to see if I can find it on YouTube with captions.
Thank you, great idea. I'm a 64yo non-American white guy, and I really wanted to follow the words. Was it just me, or did the vocal track need to be louder in the mix?
Anyway, Mr L is obviously hugely talented so I'm going to check out his work. 🙂
My ears aren't tuned to hip-hop the way they were when I was older, so I did have to go read some things last year, but did so while listening. I really catch second hand embarrassment for Drake sometimes when I do that. It's really depressing to be him right now.

Gotta respect multiple Emmys and a Pulitzer.

But my 15 year old liked it so it's all good.
He didn’t get it but appreciated the art and loved being able to share that moment with his grandkid.

I only know because I wore those EVERY. DAY. In the 90s.
I miss them....
Nothing like it! 🤣
Here's an ASL version (h/t @rvbdrm.com) ... I love the interpretations of the translators! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bcRUHM8iiFY
