Albo needs to show some guts and say NO and throw some serious tariffs on US goods and services... esp. services ... like consultants .. KPMG ..PWC etc... and heavily tariff goods from "red states" .. no point have "discussions" with Trump and MAGA nutters.
It’s ok, I’m pretty sure I heard on the ABC this morning that we have our top people working on it. The dynamic duo of Gina Rinehart and Greg Norman will sort it out, apparently.
The real danger when you have a truly vacuous vessel like Trump, lies with those who recognise & can manipulate that narcissistic pathology, have his ear & a voice that couches THEIR nefarious deeds/requests with ebullient, honeyed praise for the orange child-man.
Is just like Trump's fentanyl excuse re Canada, when it's actually less than one percent.
They always make up a ridiculous excuse, and nobody calls them on it. Media or politicians.
The White House said we broke a "verbal agreement" to stop exporting so much aluminium. Like we keep turning up unannounced on the US' doorstep with a big bag of bauxite every couple of weeks and the US is like "C'mon man, we're not in college anymore, I've got an early start tomorrow"
The US, South Korea, and Malaysia tearfully staging an intervention as Australia defiantly insists there's no problem and it can stop exporting aluminium anytime it wants to
I mean that's basically how Trump operates anyway: as somebody pointed out he's not even bullshitting, he just uses words to 'win' whatever exchange he happens to be having at that moment. (And any money Trump himself has no episodic memory of speaking with Turnbull or what they talked about.)
I find it very interesting that this remark was made just hours after Albanese apparently had a good conversation about tariffs and that it was ‘under consideration’. Shows that Trump was mocking and
giving the finger to Australia, to show who is in charge.
I think his whole program was put together by a bunch of rich and powerful people who'd play along with him and pretend he was the instigator... it's been noticeable how ready all his stuff was right down to the Executive Orders on the day he took power. Trump seems way too chaotic for that.
I doubt it's anywhere near as well-coordinated as that. Trump speaking off the cuff because 'we're considering it' sounds good for one audience while the decision has already been made.
Gina's aluminium mine is like a regular granny's zucchini plant. It produces so much. You can make an aluminium slice, you can put it in pasta, you can even hide a bit of aluminium in a cake, but in the end you have to start giving it away.

Hey Greg, any thoughts on how US tariffs may affect the trade with other markets? Whilst US domiciled manufacturers may enjoy the insulated market and supply shortfalls, does that lead to overcapacity to other markets?
thts what t rump does, walks in throws a bucket of shite everywhere, then brags on he has the solution to the problem while denying he's the only cause of the mess sin the first place
And the US produce only about half of what they need domestically so even the argument that we are hurting their export markets is nonsense. However don't forget the US trade guru now is the same guy who pushed hydroxychloroquine during COVID...
I think there is a rather inaccurate assumption in some quarters that Trump knows anything more about Australia than it is where Greg Norman comes from. It is as foolish to overestimate his talents as it is to underestimate the dangers he poses.
These tariffs are going to bite USA before they ‘hurt’ the supplier! And if they think it will boost their local production, yes but in time. I mean if you don’t have the infrastructure ready to go then either pay the price or production lines run out of product.
And if the current value of Aluminium exports to the USA is $400m (USD or AUD?) as reported by the ABC is correct that would suggest a drop in our exports, and not a breaking of our solemn word.
Isn’t it the purchasers who are demanding the aluminium the ones who are buying up before tarifs add 25%? So how is it that Australia is ‘flooding the market’?
It's not a "fight" , it's just stupid. We need to cut that shit hole country loose, and move away from the sinking ship, or go down with it. This is what Americans voted for after all, let them enjoy it by themselves.
The sooner Australia stops being dependent on America and stops being its puppet, the better. Avoid using American goods and services from as much as possible. This is the end of US hegemony and the “West”. Time to exit it.

Alcoa (US coy) bought Alumina Ltd in 2024, which i understood was Australia's biggest aluminum producer .
Same with steel.
Then review AUKUS...
Treat them like adolescent bullying and ignore them.
Trump and his brown shorts probably think we’re the largest “aluminium” exporter.
Insult to injury and a fight designed to rope-a-dope?
Let them run out of resources, I reckon
Fuck them
