Labour don't seem to realise that they will never, never get a positive headline for bringing down immigration. In fact, they could bring down immigration and the Tory papers will still say it is going up. This is political Kobayashi Maru. The only way to win is not to play.

The longer I've thought, the more anger-making I've found the phrase "hero voters". Okay, FPTP is the electoral system we've got and there are certain voters it was particularly helpful to convince last year. But that doesn't mean only governing in their interest. It doesn't mean they're right.

And it *doesn't mean they're heroes*. Your job as a government is not to elevate the prejudices of a particular group of swing voter - against foreigners, benefit claimants, Brussels - into iron laws of politics. Your job is to improve the country enough to show them they were wrong.

Absolutely. They’ve got a massive majority; use it. I’m not saying rejoin for all sorts of reasons, but these are east wins they’re passing up. They must know that either living standards improve or they’re out next election, with either Reform or a Reform-Tory coalition in. Worth taking risks now.

Seems instead of wondering why people stayed at home in the US they're focusing on who voted for the person they were always going to. If, eg, London mayoral elections show a Green swing I'd be more worried about young engaged metropolitan votes being split/lost than Reform gains. But I'm no expert.

I'd have though that one of the (few) benefits of FPTP is the lack of need to placate coalition partners and constantly put out fires of power imbalance within a coalition, as it is in multi-party systems. Labour seems to be creating problems for themselves by constantly looking over their shoulders
