I should mention that it's worth a watch even if you aren't actually into Madden the game. There's a bunch of behind the scenes industry stuff that is fascinating.
I thought it was awesome. I wouldn't suggest a bad thing to watch. It was made with care and genuine appreciation for the music. I learned a ton from it and have new albums to dig into and give a listen.
There are two Martha Stuart ones out there that my wife asked me to watch with her and both really gripped me. The Netflix biopic one, and the limited run series Martha Gardens on Prime where she shows off her personal gardens.
(this would be $3 on youtube) in one of my college classes I had to watch one called rumble. it is about native americans in rock n roll and I loved it. I dunno what music you’re into, but if you like rock music of any kind, I highly recommend!
Last Stop Larrimah on Netflix. A remote town in Australia with only 11 residents and one of them disappears. It’s insane - did the croc eat him or did he get used as pie meat? If it was a work of fiction you would say it was far fetched!
i stumbled on it when i was channel hopping on sky one day and it drew me in, and then it just got crazier and crazier, i was like HOW DID IT STAY OPEN THAT LONG HOLY FUCK
They managed to make it both jaw droppingly bad and hilariously funny at the same time. I need to listen to that, that's the same guys who do knowledge fight isn't it?
Oh maybe that's where I'm getting muddled then but yeah I'll have to give it a listen, I've watched a couple documentaries about it and I find the whole thing fascinating.
Mobsters - AppleTV - Google Play Movies - Fandango 1 hour episodes each and goes over the rise and fall of individaul mobsters each episode - so far there are 49 episodes
Love Has Won and The Way Down are great documentaries on cults.
Mysteries of the Abandoned is a great show about weird abandoned structures, but most of the mysteries are "Nazis" Who made them? Why were they abandoned? Me rolling my eyes.
I second Love Has Won! It's a documentary about how the internet and newer chatting services like Skype helped form a cult. It's a wild time, but a good one!
Not a documentary but if you haven’t watched Forensic Files I would heavily recommend that. Peter Thomas’ narration is unmatched. You can find just about all episodes for free on the FilmRise YT but they also might be streaming in America on some platforms. That show is great and has many seasons.
Also "the bob emergency", a 2-parter also on the secretbase youtube, about the rise and fall of athletes named Bob (not Robert, not Robbie), the greatest Bobs in sports and athletics in history, and it's witty and funny and great
American Movie(prime/tubi)
King of Kong (prime)
Vernon Florida (criterion)
High School USA (prime/tubi)
Lost souls the Doomed Journey of Richard Stanley’s Island of Dr. Moreau (prime/tubi)
It's a podcast, but I think it may be on YouTube, too? It came put around the same time as the documentary, I think, or maybe just before. I just think it's funny.
Also I'm gonna have to look for the post-documentary info.
Too Funny to Fail - a Hulu doc about The Dana Carvey show. How it came together and how it came to be cancelled after only one season. Has interviews with Carvey, Steve Carell, Stephen Colbert, Robert Smigel, etc. Very funny, very worth the watch
I started by going "pffft, what do I care about this weirdly niche topic?" then 90 minutes later I'm shouting "this is the best thing ever! I need MORE!" 😄
Right?! Like it's stuff I didn't think I'd find interesting at all but it's so watchable! There's a lot of that on YouTube, it's the way it's presented more than the subject a lot of the time.
