At some point people will look back at the rates available in the 2010s and be utterly bemused that we didn’t take the chance to hugely upgrade our national infrastructure.

Well done 🙄
Obviously everyone ignored her and jibbered on about tax.
Most of mine sold last year, (debts clear) but when I think what I borrowed & what it cost - wow!!!
They were also in favour of giving large corporations large chunks of money to persuade them to invest rather than just building up state capital
Osborne killed the recovery and destroyed our public services with his austerity. He then wasted the period of ultra low interest rates and failed to invest

You stimulate economies when they are slow not booming. These idiots always do the wrong thing for the wrong reason for power.
Was asked why it hasn’t happened in France on same scale
Maybe might have occurred, but France rebuilt or upgraded many of its school buildings in last 25 years
Using government or EU money
Much too narcissistic, selfish etc ... Can't possibly think about the well-being of others, or even the planet...
I’m also bemused at how pandemic debt has been handled. AFAIK little attempt to do longer term one off bonds or to try to recoup much from those that got more support or benefitted from savings/inflation/etc
Decimation is the Tory agenda🤦🏻♀️ It’s been going on since Thatcher.
Sorry
The Tories don't give a fuck about the country, its people or its infrastructure.
They have no long term vision, and are only interested in gain for themselves and their peers.
So rather than being baffled by it, see it as evidence that they are no good in Govt.
Austerity was a knowing and deliberate attack on the U.K. state and economy
There's nothing to stop the rates paid on public sector liabilities being fixed at a permanent low level (0% if desired) .
Besides, if we want to upgrade public infrastructure, we can, but only if the real resources are available
But generally speaking if the money is made available, the machinery follows it, though not immediately.
For example we had boring machines to do the Elizabeth Line and HS2.
The point of the topic is that money was choked off by the Conservatives when it was really cheap.
