i was signed up for jessica reed kraus somehow, at some point, and i didn’t even know who she was. i looked it up and was even more certain i would not intentionally sign up for this
Yes, to a fake cancer cure/anti-vaccine substack. I was incensed. I complained to their customer service and they said they don’t sell customer emails. But people get your email in other ways and subscribe you (at least according to substack)
Do they rent emails or allow people to peruse them for a fee? Those are what most people call selling but are juuuuust enough legally different for them to be able to say they don't sell them with a straight face.
Don't remember the name of it now, but ~2mos ago I started getting newsletters from a Substack I'd never heard of. Googled it, was a guy bragging about an absurdly high reader count. Think it was about "election integrity"? Marked it as spam (esp bc it went to a diff email than 1 I use for Substack)
As I look at it more, I accidentally used that email when I registered to vote in FL (didn't realize I should have left that row blank.) And his email had posts about my county's Supervisor of Election election that was part of last month's FL primary. So that's how the guy found my email
Yes. I absolutely could not figure out how I got signed up for a bunch of newsletters after I subscribed to one by an NPR host. I literally had 10 new newsletters that I did not ask for.
Literally this morning but my email address is just my first and last name and I'm constantly getting emails for a handful of other people with my name.
Actually you can use your mailing list on a Substack to re-use it elsewhere. Even though I have 3 Substacks, I don't use the mailing lists between blogs, to avoid people leaving and receiving unwanted newsletters.
