USIP is based in DC. There are no state courts. We are assured that is, somehow, a feature. One of the many "features" of being a second-class citizen by virtue of living in DC.
Sure, but assuming people who worked in the federal buildings wouldn't want to live within walking distance of where they worked in the days before cars was still a bad idea. Also alexandria has that pesky river between it and DC
There's no other jurisdiction, unless you pull some real shenanigans about where the security contractor was held.
It'd be nice if there was another source to seek relief from, but by what I understand to be cold Constitutional law, there isn't: all DC criminal proceedings occur in federal courts.
This is the action of a dictatorship, not a democracy. They're waging war on their internal enemies, and it will not stop with government agencies, or nonprofits established by the government. DOGE is eventually going to be everywhere.
NOT TRUE. That's what THE Fourth Reich wants you to think. Don't obey in advance. The Rule of Law is working - Judiciary are doing their jobs - so far, effectively - stop whining and educate yourself. Peope are working their asses off. Give them credit & kudos, not a desperate surrender. Geez.
POTUS may be able to ignore it, but DOGE has no official capacity and this sounds like an armed assault of a private office. THAT could should lead to some very serous questions about why nobody has been arrested yet (at least we can hope).
My friend, please, the war has returned again, and I am helpless now with my family in the street, trying to escape death. My friend, I need you, donβt ignore me, we are dying. ππ Donate to me via the link, even five euros would mean a lot to us. ππ
Possibly due to DC Metro facing a loss of 1 Billion dollars in funding as result of teh CR passed Friday (Thanks Chuck!). DC might be trying to stay on Trump's good side to get their funding restored.
USIP is seeking a temporary restraining order against the federal government. DOGE has "assaulted" the institute, per court filing. Judge says that word caught her eye.
The TRO seeks to prevent DOGE from accessing USIP's physical and electronic property, a declaration voiding removal of USIP's president, allowing him to resume prior duties and be treated and dually appointed president and members of the board
USIP lawyer says circumstances have changed on the ground since filing. DOGE "moving with lightning speed to gain access to the system", cyber security expert forced to drive up from Georgia, reports of physical destruction of property, hard copy physical papers thrown in trash/marked for shredding.
this is final irrefutable proof that ACAB since in no case has ANY law enforcement stepped in to stop what are clearly illegal actions. No, rather they've happily marched along to help break the laws.
It's high time to change ACAB to ADAF. All Cops are Fascists.
Unbelievable that no one ever considered the dangers of having the US Marshals, who couldβve physically stopped/removed DOGE twerps, under the thumb of the DOJ that serves only the President.
judge points out USIP is nonprofit organization. asks what that means in terms of independence from gov't?
USIP lawyer says no executive function, created by act of congress, perform work of educating/training/participating in conflict resolution via peaceful means. employees NOT federal employees.
Iβm been saying theyβre going to come for the Smithsonian. Especially the African American cultural and history museum. This is a big indicator they will be
USIP has administrative jurisdiction of the building via Dept of the Navy, meaning they control it. Unlike federal buildings, General Services Administration (GSA) is NOT the landlord.
Aren't criminal acts discovered during civil proceedings governed by the judicial canons pertaining to Code of Conduct meaning they must be referred the appropriate prosecutorial authorities?
The land USIP sits on (corner of 23rd St) belongs to the Navy. That particular site was/is the home of Navy BUMED & Surgery. Some flag officer housing is also part of that compound. GSA has no jurisdiction whatsoever on that property.
My god this is the craziest shit. They broke into a building on private property after threatening the security team and vandalized things that didn't belong to the government???? Um helloooooooooooooooooooooooo am I taking crazy pills
In my brief wiki read about USIP - I read that their HQβs was funded through public-private partnerships. To me that says the Feds didnβt pay for the building. So they should GTFO
If you know anything about the USIP, you know how many people who have experienced or care about the horrors of centuries who came together there to fight for a better world. To see a bunch of goons who don't have any idea break in & break things is as depressing as anything in this era
Both Trump and Elon are diagnosable sociopaths who have avoided the diagnosis by simply being too rich to ever face any consequences that would lead them to seek treatment

Hearing adjourned - not over. Right now the Judicery in the USA is literally the last man standing in defending the democracy of the country.
It is super important that they get everything right. Be patient, these are wise people. They know everything will be appealed. They are being cautious.
The point is to expand presidential power by (illegally) making it /de facto/ within his power to write an EO that effects any and all of this /kind/ of organization. They'll try this again if they don't get away with it*, or if they do they'll try again with similar kinds of orgs.
* the reason they're doing property damage is so they might destroy the organization, if the judge says they're wrong, which is a different kind of getting away with it, because it encourages the compliance of other organizations.
So they'll go from here to, say, asserting (illegal) authority over the Red Cross, which has the same structure of being a 501(c)(3) founded by Congress. I expect if they're successful at assert that authority, they'll tell them (among other things) not to provide blood to trans people in surgery.
They might also have actual strategic goals against USIP, of course - it's not hard to see how they might see USIP's mere existence as challenging to their authority to build a resort over Gaza or a million other things.
I love how the USIP lawyer struggled to get a word in bc Judge Howell was pseudo-ranting i.e. legally removing board members "WITHOUT guns??" and "WITHOUT force??"
For anyone who isn't aware, District Judge Beryl Howell is the same judge who blocked Trump attack on the law firm Perkins Coie, the same firm who represented Trump's political opponents. So she already has a history of blocking unlawful EOs from this administration.

We canβt do much to him while in office but we can do what the law allows, to everyone else.
(Alexandria left because slaves, basically)

The visibility is so needed and appreciated.
Political leaders should not be able to promote lies to the public.
Feel free to delete your account, too.

This is a shitshow on too many levels at once.
Nope, the USA, 2025.
