From my reporting, this mindset stems from the outcomes of two late 2010's lawsuits: The "funding secured" SEC case, which he settled for $20m, and the "pedo guy" defamation case, which he won.

He learned that regulators and the courts have no way of keeping someone with that much money in check.

These outcomes were incredibly freeing epiphanies, and they inform everything he does today: Laws can and should be challenged. If he loses a few cases, fine. No penalty can be punitive enough for someone with that much money and power.

Perhaps that was true coming into this. DOGE tactics have taken a beating in court so far. There’s little to suggest the heat will let up. And Musk lost the Delaware corporate case, and is losing his Twitter severance cases…
