Move fast and break things is not the motto you want to adopt at a regulatory system that, as challenged as it may seem at times, is extremely functional.

Much like tracking the tuberculosis outbreak in Kansas that has now spread to OH, and newer deadly bird flu strain that is in NV cows now-this will be word of mouth—which we all know how well that goes😑
Jesus. The reason the FAA is having problems is that Musk made the director quit over SpaceX crap, and a lot of those "don't return to work" notices were handed out to ATCs. Our aviation system was working fine before the new administration. I hate it here.
It’s the same glib crew that promised to solve autonomous driving “in 2-3 years”. Smart, but absolutely blinded by hubris and greed, they’ll drag us along on their ruinous learning curve.
The whiz kids Elon grooms up from SpaceX, X, and whatever? They’re smart in their zone, but their intelligence is shallow and stunted.
Don’t underestimate them, but know they’re extremely vulnerable to their own egos.
The planes will be so efficient at crashing now. They won't even have to bother hitting helicopters or other planes...they can just fly up 2k feet, angle down and nosedive at breakneck speed. It will all be so seamless.
There is a lot wrong and in need of repair with the current US ATC system, and of all those things, there is exactly nothing that Musk and his kids can fix.
In the case of air traffic controllers, 100% of those problems is understaffing. The tech problems require a big heaping infusion of money, and not a bunch of children running around saying, "The problem is that you didn't rewrite everything in Go."
Well, it's also that all controllers need to be trained in a single facility with fixed capacity that's barely enough to keep up with everyone retiring. And they still haven't caught up from canceling the class of 2020.
There's been widespread reporting for decades about what an intractable, borderline impossible task upgrading hardware for ATC is (not software) for systemic root causes that are not addressable by a single drug-addled racist shit for brains and a PR team.
Was already thinking I'd have to cancel my vacation nexy due to the need to save money; now my main motivation might instead be to not crash into a mountain because the slur-based AI guiding my plane's trajectory hallucinated flying shrimp Jesus in its flight path
"You know how good Trump is at being detail oriented ? Well, next time you get in a plane, think about this: Trump's 20 year old fans are gonna "fix" aviation safety"
I mean, simple, clear, direct, personal, unlike say foreign aid which no one likes
$10 says Musk will "upgrade" the system so that it will automatically divert aircraft in a different directions if SpaceX rockets explode. Uhm, sorry unscheduled disassembly.
Today on @cnn one of their idiot talking heads compared Trumps chaos to FDRs New Deal implementation and another stated USAID funding cuts are “theoretical”. I can’t take it.
Is Sean Duffy insane? Trump’s only been in office for two weeks, and we have already had like 4 airline incidents and seen scores of people killed. How does a rational person want to let an unqualified “team” anywhere near our airline systems? Guess his family doesn’t fly commercial.
Anything is game if it gives the Billionaires MORE $$$ No Science, no education, no health - no severe weather notices or volcano reports - have fun they don't have enough $$$
This type of work takes time and planning, you don't just shotgun a solution and I've seen techs fired for this (Boss really wanted to go to that Blazers game). There are so many things you need to verify, this is classic C-level exec thinking where they have no clue.
We’re about to find out how fragile the US aviation system actually is. There are some out there who may want to exploit that to hurt us. The recklessness is staggering, and so is the apathy.
The notion that a handful of developers, coming in from the outside, with no familiarity with the code at all, could easily step in and "uprgrade" the system is phenomenally arrogant.
I've always heard people say you aren't a real programmer until you've crashed prod. This is the first time I'm worried that the crash would be an airliner.
I'd bet you anything much of "their" code has been spat out by an LLM as well and pushed with no testing at all.
I've been coding for 30 years and I can say I've _heard_ of all of those but haven't used any of them professionally. I think _maybe_ some departments still use Fortran.
It's not so much the languages as the impossibility of ingesting complicated code quickly.
If these guys had a limited goal of standardizing code libraries throughout the government, that would be great. But there is plenty of reason to distrust anything Musk is involved in. There is a way to do this properly, and Musk is choosing an opposite approach. Because he hates everybody.
I suspect most of Government applications are in some sort of 70s language..most likely Fortran. These clowns think they're geniuses, and they can just understand anything they pick up.
Like having a 25yr old Musk minion add back door coding to the $6 trillion/yr Federal payment system software in the biggest cyber attack risk ever, what could possibly go wrong w/ the Titan submersible? Answer given by oligarchs and their cheerleaders: "what do you mean? It's failsafe!"
With great power comes great responsibility. Be part of the solution!

Would you believe that the aviation community leans heavily Republican? As involved a they are with unions, still the majority of pilots and FAs I've known in 30 years in the industry are Trumpers.
They often seem to misunderstand that they are labor. They’re expensive labor, and they’re EXACTLY the labor the VC class hopes to disrupt the most.
Guess the laser-sight dots are hard to see until it really gets dark.
Perfect. We can use walkie talkies and guess at the weather and relive the glories of Ernest Gann. Seems fine to let ignorant start up bros in on this.
I don't think this misadministration's bumbling causing two crashes in a week is reason to have the nitwits in charge of this misadministration overhaul a pretty successful organization.
Sorry, no. Imagine trying to explain the aphorism of “regulations written in blood” to one of Elon’s “magical thinking” DOGE drones, who’s so callow and overstuffed with hubris they think they can program anything into perfection.
I don't have to - the relatives of the victims of the first crash caused by this, however will...

That’s a good point! Now I’m less horrified and more ambivalent. Feel that way about the FBI too. Objectively this is pretty bad but….well it couldn’t happen to a more deserving agency.

Not saying it didn’t happen. Just a bit surprising
It never offered a pension for those not eligible. Even if they would’ve been say, a year from retirement eligibility.
The same guy who ignored regulations because he’s some sage innovator…
The abomination of a tech bro has reached peak velocity.

Every politician and leader within the @democrats.org
You need to establish media centers in every state, that regardless time of the day air press conferenses every time Donald Trump shows up !
That facility needs to be expanded to fix this.

The last people we want messing with those systems are the ones who aren't terrified of touching it.
they do not need a man-child mucking around because he's mad because they won't let him blow up his rockets in the way of airliners whenever he wants
I weep for America.

One thing the EU takes deadly serious is safety regulation.

What the hell does “upgrade” mean here?
I'm flying next week!

Antiquated equipment is a big issue but don’t expect Eloon and his Lost Boys to recommend spending the needed cash to fix it.

also the NWS cuts into Steven Smith's profit margins so they have to go too
Everything will be just fine, I’m sure.
Looking forward to hurricane season here in Houston...
