I think its not that bad for the discussion we had about Taurus or longer ranged weapons in general. The fear about Ukraine will hit Moscow with our weapons without permission.

Chancellor Scholz and other politicians did not express their trust in Ukraine.

I agree, the low trust in Ukraine is the result of pro- russian propaganda and appeasement politics by almost all (!) german parties. Except Die Grünen. And they have been punished in the polls for that.

Well, if the USA suddenly cuts off Ukraine from intelligence and military support, that will also be a milestone for the trust of Western nations/governments in their reliability. In the future, no one will want to rely on them anymore.

I believe the question was asked in German to French speaking people for them to have such a high confidence in USA. I've seen other recent polls clearly indicating that French are as suspicious of their (former ?) ally as German.

I think you've misunderstood the table (or I have). The lines show the amount of confidence Germans have in each of those other countries, so France is the most trusted, then the UK etc.

Despite the 2024 U.S. election, there would be no public sentiment or support for siding with Russia to oppose Europe; too much historic affinity & current economic interdependence between the U.S. and Europe. "These troops" have bonds with NATO and support Ukraine, even if their hands are tied.

2nd part is unrealistic too. US need Ramstein a lot, it´s their control-center for whole Europe and most of Asia. They´d never leave (even I doubt that Trump knows about the importance of the center there).

U.S. presence is always at the discretion of the host government. You're right, America benefits immensely from key overseas locations like Ramstein. Berlin could certainly start to play Washington's game and make it much more transactional if the U.S. wants/needs to stay.

Langley, Beale, Hickam (3 US based), Osan(KOR) and Ramstein are core. Without the last ones the US may even not have fully control over their satellites and drones on this side of the globe.

Indications are that the US now provide targeting information to Russia (e.g., in Odessa). That is not "pausing".
