A lot of Republican voters didn't, or they didn't think Susie Wiles as COS would let them be nominated. I know this for a fact, and anyone who knows people in conservative legal circles knows this too. (Many of these folks didn't vote for Trump but spoiled/Libertarian & voted R downballot.)
I need someone to peel back the veil and explain whether dem senators are seriously this gullible, or playing it safe on nominees bc they can only really win on budget and legislation? Or was this just a Hail Mary, know we’ve got no shot but maybe a small chance of it?
And they got plenty of votes on the others. The point of the strategy as it has been communicated is that dems voted yes on early and “more acceptable” noms in hopes of blocking the Patel types
guys this is exactly the point. it’s politics and horse trading. who knows what was offered etc and what the deals if any were, but theoretically you can make it politically painful enough for a swing state senator to get them to defect, and you only need a few.
the real question is, are senate dem leaders this naive, or just selling us bs publicly (this Hail Mary).. it’s a real question IMO in terms of strategy and will to fight going forward, can they keep up
They were hoping some Rs would join them on the bad ones and hoping that being in lockstep on the worst ones would send a message. It didn’t work. Being in lockstep rejecting all of them wouldn’t have brought about a different outcome.
Given all this and the increased likelihood of political prosecutions against Democrats and the entire federal apparatus being used against political enemies, how can you think the midterms will even be possible let alone plausible?
