Yeah that makes total sense. I’m heartbroken by it all, but not that surprised. In less than a generation, defeated confederate traitors largely papered over starting the deadliest war in American history. The human capacity to forget bad things seems infinite.

We're going to see this in the April 1 election. I feel a lot of Wisconsin that was blase about the Harris-Trump election will show up for Susan Crawford. Voters are swingy and weird, even in a hyperpolarized era!

The dividing line in American politics is basically "how much do you follow the news?" — which can sometimes be approximated well by "how much do you read?"

The people who do are quite Democratic. The people that don't are now very Republican. But the first group votes more in midterms.

Most of the Trumpers I know watch a lot of Fox News. So there is definitely a segment of "Fox News followers" that don't quite fit that dividing line properly.

A habit of reading regularly (news, pleasure or otherwise) might be a better dividing line, in my experience.

The other key to J6 minimization the secret, Service succeeded in whisking pence out of harms way, and the police and other security forces miraculously prevented anything but superficial damage. The writers simply weren’t able to do much damage because members of Congress had been evacuated.
