Maybe being relegated as a 5th class citizen isn’t inspiring. Killing us birthing- certainly sends a message to women & not a good one. These are the policies of Christian extremists not based on science at all. A rapist or child molester gets evidence based care- women get Bronze Age birth control

Same with psychiatric wards in hospitals. In my state, there are regulations stating that there can only be one hospital offering psychiatric services per county. The bigger hospital in our area gave it to the other hospital across the street bc it was better for the budget.

A couple of things going on here.

1. Rural areas are bleeding young people for all the obvious reasons. So there are less young families.

2. Refusal to expand Medicaid in red states has accelerated this trend because Medicaid pays for over 40% of births in this country.

Awful. I had my last baby nearly 18 yrs ago in a shitty Catholic hospital where I got scolded for not letting the nurse know I was in pain from a c-sect 12 hrs earlier. The call button was on a wall 4 feet behind the bed. Hard to believe new mothers could be treated worse but here we are.

Yes, our local hospital closed in 2013 and the next nearest one just last year. We are a town of 18,000!! You have to drive 35 minutes away to the next one.

the other issue here is that in rural areas, if the nearest hospital is "out of network" you're out of luck and still have to drive
