Dan KP regularly appears on The Lab, which I much prefer for Dan KP podcast content because Buckland isn't on it being emotionally incontinent. I actually don't mind a ranty fan giving their perspective, just not leading the show and not so vitriolitcally serious.
I think Flav does a great job of wending his way between emotional states, analysis, doubt, vibes, and shifting positions. I think if you're going to do the emotional stuff (which is legit - football is emotional), it makes it better if done with a bit of humour and vulnerability, and less hate.
It was a strange over reaction I thought, even for Marcus, to say that team selection was the last straw. I was relieved with the selection. Imagine if he had played the 3 and 1 or all, had picked up an injury and missed the EL....all hell would have broke out
Honestly, I'm so bored of the rhetoric from these podcasts, even the "data/tactics led" ones that blame Ange when we lose and call him lucky when we win, or moan that we won, but we shouldn't have... Come one man, the game is there to be enjoyed
I too have an Ange bias having watched him in his playing days and may look for positives with a bit more ferver. Having said that, I think it’s fair to say that the Ange OUT camp are a lot more emotional and less factual than the IN, who I see focus on evidence beyond just table position.
I’ve been thinking a lot about what it would take for me to decide Ange is not the guy, at what point would I lose belief and only have hope left. If we get knocked out by AZ, I’d still give him one more season if we have decent performances in the league and players are still on board
If we lose to AZ over two games then he has to go. Any team with ambition of achieving great things can’t have a season like this. He needs to get to EL semis at the very least to have any chance of staying next season. And if we don’t win it it’s going to be difficult to see him last the summer.
Agree it’s hard to see him survive if we don’t win it. I dont agree that a team with ambition can’t have a season like this and still be successful if the underlying fundamentals are right and players believe but I do see yr point. Crazy if we win the EL, he’s our most successful manager since 1982
Not at all. You have to look at his tenure as a whole. over two years that’s a big enough sample size to say we are not progressing as we should under him. Since the first ten games we are at or below mid table. Is that what you are expecting from a Tottenham manager?
I’ve actually thought about this and pretty much realize I couldn’t make a Spurs podcast (or at least one that’s listened to). Do want to get back into content creation sometime.
As I posted earlier , it's a good pod and could have been a very good episode if a debate between Dan and Tom, but Marcus ruins it , same as Danny Kelly does on The View from The Lane
Recommend the ‘Oh so Spurs’ podcast. They have some solid guests interviews. Listened to their City reaction pod and it’s refreshingly upbeat and aligns more with optimistic Spurs fans.
I’ve noticed that a lot of the pods I listen to that are normally fairly balanced (VFTL, TEI, Tottenham Way) are losing the plot after the City game. They call for Ange to rotate and prioritise the cups but when he does it’s wrong. A few lost credibility this week imo.
Have you listened to our debate yet? We have a pretty fair discussion about the changes IMO. And why not link to the episode next time you’re slagging us off?
Do you real expect adults to listen Marcus Buckland attempt to present a podcast?
His presenter voice and mannerisms are bad enough but he acts like the worst emotional fan
It's unlistenable
It's fine when he's not on
I’m not ok with attacking the guy personally, to be clear. He’s a fine presenter. There’s nothing wrong with his voice or mannerisms. I just think his criticisms are irrationally negative and I don’t value that kind of approach.
It's 2025 and I as a non-English person choose not to listen to arrogant voices of people who went to English public schools or even others who make money for nazi newsletter provider Substack
I actually think the pod is the most balanced out there. @dankp.bsky.social (🐐), The Toms offer a neutral slightly less informed but balanced opinion and Marcus is like an old man in the pub shouting “why don’t they just hoof it” at the TV. It would be quite nice if you could mute him.
i disagreed with much of dan’s take on this past match, but find him to be continually fair and thoughtful in his analysis and interpretations of the club’s path and manager’s actions. both toms too.
marcus detracts from the pod and it’s a shame. he’s the type of ‘fan’ we’re all trying to avoid.
Dan, why do you think so many people got pissed off by this game in particular? Especially those who were at the stadium. Am atmosphere problem? I felt genuinely fine with it watching on TV. Definitely in the Tom A camp of the debate.
I can’t speak for anyone else but I suppose it’s always going to split opinion when 3 of the most important outfield players are left out against a side like City. I think that probably contributed to a flat atmosphere 1st half. Obviously I totally get AP thinking (& Tom A’s case was compelling).
I’ve outlined my disagreement in the pod & article, & keen to move on now. Would happily see AP vindicated in Bilbao! As for the criticism of the pod, I think we largely had a balanced debate. Marcus is a passionate fan & ST-holder - he cares about Spurs a lot, but appreciate his opinion’s divisive.
@dankp.bsky.social the word you were looking for Marcus is “antiquated.” I do think you missed the mark on the AP critique. Clear that he rested Son, kulu, and Spence because they have played a lot of minutes and were on 4 days rest. The 8 day rest after the match was a bit of a red herring.
I don't think they'll be resting as such in this period. I think they'll be training hard because Ange has repeatedly complained they've not been able to train. It's a fine balancing act of competing priorities at the moment.
I listened to the pod today after initially turning it off when I heard Marcus's intro. Was a too talkSPORT for me. But that game is old news now, although I am still intrigued why people in the stadium were seemingly more cross about it than those not there. Not noticed that to this degree before.
But the debate was reasonably balanced, I agree, even if Marcus did seem intent on amping up the negativity. I guess it's a bit unusual to have a host so... partial?
Just a hypothesis, but it's pretty annoying spending lots of money, making the effort but not getting to see the best version of your team. I wasn't best pleased, particularly as it felt like we'd likely have won. I understand the reasoning & accept it but understand why some wouldn't.
I found the opening by Marcus, way too over the top. I did listen to the whole pod & it was more balanced. However finding anything Ange does now he can’t win with some. Made perfect sense to bring some players in. All this dropping 3 key players, is again based on opinion not facts.
Your debate with Tom was a pretty fair discussion around rotation, tactics, etc and I read both pieces. Marcus, however, is another story and it continually is weirdly personal and vitriolic (quirks of a person are made moral problems: he looks down at the ground, he says mate, etc)
The pod is immeasurably better when Buckland is awol. I disagreed with your take, but respect the way your opinion was presented & therefore listened to it objectively. Marcus however is a belligerent bellend & makes the pod close to unlistenable.
I have. And I'll be frank, Marcus's tone and criticism on the pod is regularly unfair. The framing of the manager as 'witless' is unfair. Framing the City match as 'the final straw' and Ange's 'resignation letter' so hyperbolic. Why would I want to share that, let alone listen to it?
I think Ange is great, but i also think this is probably the most enjoyable and balanced spurs podcasts out there. It’s clearly not based on stats, but at the same time, there are a lot of people who feel the same way as Marcus and i don’t think they can just ignore that. It’s a fair debate
It is strange the pivot. After Ipswich it was “prioritize Europe.” After City it’s “poor team selection.”
The truth is we weren’t far off it against City. Doku is a handful. The starting 11 was piling the pressure BEFORE the subs. And Djed, Deki, and Sonny all DID need a rest.
No, it’s not. Buckland’s ranting aside, I thought this was a lively debate, with good points made on both sides. Don’t tar the others with the same brush as him
I mean, I explicitly distinguished this in this conversation. It can be true that in a show with several people, one can put you off the show because it’s always wading through hyperbolic negativity. https://bsky.app/profile/profspur.bsky.social/post/3ljao4nxoes2o
the funny thing this week was the accusation that ange only cares about the future that could then not be squared with playing timo over dane (or mikey) to debunk that theory, so it was just shuffled over.
marcus is the type of supporter who makes me ashamed to share the same interest in spurs.
my mental health post matches have improved since I've cut drastically back on podcasts while on bus. I'm going to hear all the nonsense anyway from friends and colleagues, but why listen to the bombast with no nuance in my own time!
I stopped 10 minutes through both this and view from the lane this week. Really like Tottenham Way when Marcus isn't on. Even when we win he wants to be negative, has been since we lost to Fulham in the Carabao Cup last year.
he and danny kelly should join forces, co-host a podcast together and allow us all to be able to tune them out and enjoy debates elsewhere amongst the daily journalists who cover the club.

"I'm not Ange out, but...." Then proceeds to use the dumbest attacks on him with zero context.
Couldn’t say the same about them
whenever he does not appear the level of discourse is more than just significantly raised.
