All my sexual preferences were shaped by the idea that I could be Leelee Sobieski, clinging to Elijah Wood on the back of a bike as we escape an apocalyptic tidal wave.
Oh, that movie left a lasting impact on me, especially the final scenes. I think it was the first time that I felt like someone in mainstream media understood taking some semblance of control over their own lives in a really awful situation rather than cower in fear.
the day after tomorrow and 2012 are two of my favorite movies ever, maybe even top 10 purely based on how much I enjoy them, and I will die on this hill. the marketing department just fucked up, you can’t market a roland emmerich movie like titanic
volcano’s also great bc tommy lee jones curmudgeon
but 2012? so good. that little old lady saying “hold on to those eggs, dear” as she drives 10mph while half of california is literally sliding into the ocean, john cusack is behind her screaming “MOVE OUT OF THE WAY YOU OLD HAGS” then she slams into a wall and dies and the kids scream?
2012 is an action comedy and if they’d marketed it the way they marketed This Is The End everything would be different. woody harrelson with an all time
performance, the vice president ranting about his ex wife like “her last words were I never want to see you again. SO BE IT!”
it’s so funny how the concept of a totally unhinged embarrassing American president legit didn’t exist in media until trump. even in the bush era it was simply unfathomable to the American mind that The President could be a complete evil dumbass
I remember watching this in the theater and crying my eyes out when NYC got hit (I'm from NY & have a lot of family there). I may or may not have been days away from my period.
The older I get, the less I feel inclined to make the choice to give up that helicopter seat, even if it does lead to a tender reuion scene in front of a tidal wave.
What’s amazing is that it’s the asteroid movie that both gives “the people” what they want (a huge, consequential impact) AND that at least tries to get the science and the human element reasonably right.

THE PEAK???
Kudos!
That's not some kind of secret desire, is it?🤣
We'll watch the Core if we're desperate and 2012 only if there is literally nothing else on.

peak cinema.

just A+ all around
Also Snowpiercer I keep hearing
1. Olympus
2. London
3. Angel
I love them, and I think there might be a fourth coming out.
Olympus Has Fallen remains the best, but Angel is very good, and Morgan Freeman is very good in it (of course.)
I am not even joking a little bit.
