Honestly I struggle to see how Twitter is now worth $20bn. That might have been a fair price when he first bought it. Now there are 3 plausible competitors [BS/Mast/Threads]; no guarantee advertisers could be brought back and the brand sanitised.

Most objective analysts thought it was worth $15-25bn when he bought the undamaged company for $44bn, rather than pay around $1bn to walk away, all for ego.

He ‘could’ have been sued by Twitter for reneging on a deal for which he had imposed no conditions precedent, but from what I’ve read it would have been EXTREMELY unlikely to have resulted in much more than a fractional judgement if anything 🤷‍♂️

It's currently losing about $1bn a year. Before Musk came a long it sometimes made a profit, sometimes did not. Even if the debt were wiped out, how would you ever get your $20bn back?

And to fix what's wrong, whoever bought it would surely have to go on a massive hiring spree to replace most of the people Musk fired, and embark on equally massive software engineering projects, which I imagine would be as unattractive as it'd be expensive, while the company is haemorrhaging cash.

I guess what I mean there is that they wouldn't be buying a normal going concern, but rather a hollowed-out husk which needs rebuilding from the ground up, with a once-powerful but now severely tarnished brand. Plus those losses of $1 billion per year, of course.
