The thing is, is if a liberal tea party happens in 2026 and 2028, I don't expect it to be ideological shake up but a *temperamental* shake up

the reason to systematically primary safe seat Dems in 2026 and 2028 is because they don't have the guts to do what needs to be done in 2029 even if they get the spine to do what needs to be done when under crushing pressure in 2025

Radical proceduralism in service of milquetoast center-left liberalism.
Man, this is a time capsule...

NEED them.
a democrat running on "abolish all billionaires" will get massive amounts of funding to their opponents and will probably lose
It's not 2017. There's no longer an insurgent wing trying to take over. All of those players are either supporting Trump or checked out, which is a blessing because it means we're not fighting a war on two fronts like last time.
there's a few red lines i'm not willing to cross (no outwardly anti-trans people etc.) but my top 10 wishlist for policies is just "how specifically are you going to destroy these goons"
healthcare plans or tax proposals are so far down i don't really care
but everything has to come second to crush the traitors in our midst.
Healthcare reform or single payer would be nice, but if your house is on fire, it's not the right time to talk about an attached garage.
I don't think any other group has the organizational power to actually cause a serious change.
What if some socdems and demsocs ran (!), and ran furiously anti-Trump?
Maybe it would be an opportunity!
I don't think it'll be as big an issue as you think. Because they're *also* pissed.
But I'd be surprised if the age is an issue that is polarized across age. (Basically, I think that it'll end up being a proxy for wanting a fighter, and that isn't an age-linked thing)
