Honestly it's nice to see that they would rather try new things. Though it would be nice to see a port to modern systems for others at least. (since I can just play the "fixed" version on Steam)
hear me out, i think this game definitely needs a new modern release; i hate having to be the guy to go "get it on steam AND THEN install a billion mods to fix the 20 year old dogshit porting job". I know remasters are tiring to hear about, but in this case I think it would be good for preservation.
I don't think the game needs a remaster, tbh. a lot of what is "wrong" with the game by nowadays' industry standards is very fundamental, the hub worlds being empty, reutilized assets, etc. A visual overhaul would do nothing, and a remake could change a lot of the game's essence.
the most important thing and what I do think sega should focus resources on is PC ports. port the games. all of them, even the bad ones, and especially the ones that aren't already ported by fans. the storybook games, fix the heroes port, and ESPECIALLY rush.
Yeah, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with releasing proper remasters of old games. People unfortunately tend to use remake and remaster interchangeably though, and it’s the remake part I’m against.
The smart thing to do would be getting an external developer to do a remaster. Like what Nintendo did with Zelda so they could spend more time making Breath of the Wild.
Ideally the external developer doing the remastering would not do a shitty job, as so many are wont to do (including whoever did those Zelda remasters).
This said while Capcom is laughing all the way to the bank with the 10 million Resident Evil 4 remake units sold money.
Meanwhile, Sonic Team with their brand new Sonic Frontiers selling 4.57 million units.
I agree with Sonic Team, but Capcom is raking in more cash, so... who's the smart one?
I think it's arguable given the size and scope of Frontiers, as well as the genre its in, it makes sense it sold that much compared to Resi4
If Resi sold that much with the amount of budget and resources it requires itd be concerning, but platformers are a lower budget genre to begin with
Sure, but Capcom is expanding, so even if their games are more costly to make, they are evidently earning Capcom a lot of dough, meaning more job opportunities... which is... good?
And it's not like Capcom are only making sequels and remakes... Exoprimal, Pragmata, Kunitsu-Gami are all great!
Oh I wasn't saying Resident Evil 4 didn't do well or downplaying it, I was saying for the scope and budget it had Frontiers did incredibly well, too. SEGA's expanded off its success and has talked frequently abt how successful Sonic is relative to budget at the moment
Just to be clear, I'm not hating on Sonic. I've bought and played most games and I've been by his side since the Mega Drive-debut. I just thought it sounded weird saying Sonic Team was "smarter" than Capcom and Konami, when both have published incredibly successful remakes (RE4 and SH2).
One of your examples is a failed GAAS, and another seems to be a middling third person shooter that has spent multiple years in development hell and still isn't out.
And this is great news! But it still doesn't take away from the fact that Capcom are more successful, so saying Sonic Team is "smarter"... not really sure in what way when it comes to running a successful business...
Moving the goalposts to "It's about quality" when I was talking about sales numbers, huh?
Point is, you can do both. You can make remakes/remasters AND new games and experiences and BOTH can make money and support the company just fine when done right.
If you're running a business, it's about making money. Capcom are making a ton of money, I'd say that makes them pretty smart when it comes to running a business...
I want a new Mega Man as much as you, but the reality is, sure it's a lesser budget game, but what did it sell? 2+ million?
Meanwhile Monster Hunter, Resident Evil, Street Fighter etc run laps around it. It makes business sense to invest in what you know does well.
they make laps around it BECAUSE they are being sustained properly, and mega man 11 did great for its scope. again, record breaking. if they cared to keep up that momentum it would make much more
I keep hoping for a new Mega Man everytime Capcom news arrive, and I'm pretty sure we'll see the blue bomber again soon enough, but yeah, the days of pumping out 1-2 new Mega Man games a year are long gone...
I wish there was a link to the mentioned Shacknews interview. I don't think I found anything helpful out of googling for it, just the recent racing game and last year's musings about adventure 3/ adventure 1&2 remaster/remake.
I’d rather see a remaster of Sonic 06 since it could do with better details and cutscenes especially to fix the shakiness of characters and blank expressions mostly

What a concept…
"..I really am appreciate for everyone who likes the Sonic Adventure series.."
Aside from the overpricing and no more remasters planned, I'm glad Sega is taking things serious with developing games again.

If they did a remake, the change in voice actors alone would cause such unnecessary chaos lmao
