Exactly this. If you want to piss and moan about how it’s hopeless and useless, feel free, but don’t expect a ton of support from the people who are putting their back into stopping it.

if they could legally do any of this to the rest of us, they already would be. They will push and strain and test and twist the system until they can. And, if we let them, they will.
"nothing can stop this" is one way of letting them. So is "we're already there" and/or "RIP rule of law lol"

We are gonna get our republic BACK and then we are gonna set some SALUTARY EXAMPLES.
I was initially reticent for the Opening Arguments podcast to pick up an immigration lawyer as it was an area of law I traditionally had little interest in. But godamn if he isn't on the front lines against our faschist government.
Remember there actually *are* countries that use social networks to spread disinformation. Causing dissent is one big, easy way to accomplish that.
That's not to say everything is a conspiracy, but rather, maybe not react so strongly, because it could be. ❤️
this site overwhelmingly treats openly right wing trolls like that: shunning. probably time to do that with people who spread hopelessness also.
not just the odd moment of despair, but consistently.
1) Get to feel smug about being right
2) Don't have to DO anything if it's already all over.
Doing stuff is haaaaard and these babies would rather armchair critique
it is fatuous in others though and you can be both at once too.
some people say grim shit but are doing the work. some just say grim shit. some say grim shit and openly disparage other peoples' efforts
but you don't stop.
Believing you can help vs. believing you’re powerless is the difference between being a “rescuer” vs. a “bystander” in a genocide. (Perpetrators see *themselves* as the victims.)
"We're already there", is something that I say to signal that people need to buckle in and fight for their lives, that there isn't time to wait around for someone to save you.
And no, that doesn't include-
But we're in the thick of it and it's important to not lose-
I don’t fight because I have hope. I fight out of a combination of orneriness and hero-complex.
I cannot EVEN.
It's not entirely unfair to remain incredulous, all things considered.
And what they are doing is damage mitigation that might just make a fucking difference.
This is full on resistance with no stopping no matter what it takes!!
Vanishingly few elected officials want to fight, but some of them WILL if you grab them by the ankles, drag them to the edge, & throw them into wolf pit.
Your calls matter.
It’s frustrating that these people don’t want to act until they can get the complete lay of the land. But we can give it to them!
But just do something because it won’t do it by itself, bring one person along and that becomes two…

Damn. There are two types of liberals I guess lol
No, I want a better future, and will fight for it.
They go around giving in, giving up, & believing nothing will turn around.
But doom is also a reflection of powerlessness.
& from my experience, helping ANYBODY increases our sense of power.
It WORKS.
And when you start to feel a sense of power from helping others, you also begin to feel hope & optimism.
You can directly trace optimism in a crisis to those who do something to help.
