Also INTERESTING FACT for the folks I will be seeing in Toronto: both while I am masked, and not, I will always have a couple of good toots of this stuff (which reduces both transmission and reception of various airborne thingers). π

Nice! For those in the us, you should be able to get xlear or covyxil online, very similar (xlear feels normal, covixyl has that I am doing a line of spicy eucalyptus tingle)
Are we talking grinding wheel up nose unpleasant, or outrageously minty and herbal unpleasant? I might actually love this stuff depending on your answer
The second! I don't know why Vicks feels compelled to put menthol or eucalyptus or whatever the hell it is in everything (I guess so it 'smells like Vicks') but like! GUYS THAT IS IN MY NOSEHOLES
i will have to check it carefully, i'm allergic to eucalyptus, maybe one of the competitors will be better. but sounds like a thing for the Worldcon trip ..
Now, do I know this stuff helps reduce my odds of getting Le Plague? Nope. BUT is the science of nasal barrier sprays sound? Yep. It just makes an extra little gluey coat inside your nose that traps particles and helps them die before they can infect you. :)
And also, anecdotally, I've been using it PRETTY consistently when I'm out and about (reapplying every 3-ish hours) and while it's... HIGHLY UNPLEASANT (wehhh) I haven't gotten Le Plague since the one time in 2022 (masking, but not using the spray too).
Admittedly every time I use it I wail "UGHHHHH I'D RATHER GET THE PLAGUE" but I think the non-Vicks ones are... less spicy/mentholated. (It's truly not that bad and it isn't designed to go UP your nose, just coat your nasal membrane thingies)
I had 238 (!!!) one-on-one meetings for the library last year, about 60% of which were in person, in my closed-door office. I masked and sprayed. Almost NOBODY else masked (two people maybe?) and I didn't get sick all year. :)
Good to know! We have a buddy who has been shipping us betadine iota-carageenan nasal spray from the GTA and we've had good luck with it. No covid, though the immunocompromised household member did still pick up a bacterial pneumonia because their immune system is made of spit and baling wire.
I know a commercial airline pilot (recycled cabin air!) and she confirms that itβs essential to coat your nostrils with something sticky to catch the nasty particles.
Sadly not available in the US. I picked some up when in Vancouver last year, and am pretty sure thatβs what has kept me COVID-free during my last several trips.
I have a generic nose spray thatβs similar and I was literally in a house for a weekend with people recovering from sickness and walked out unscathed.
The nasal sprays are everything!! Iβve been using Profi religiously and it truly helps. Iβve gone to a bunch of parties and not gotten sick from then once
Agreed. Big fan of using both this and a mask. Also gargling with CPC mouthwash at the end of the day. As a disabled person, I have enough problems. I am utterly unwilling to add any further illness to the mix!
There are a bunch out there! Betadine also makes one (that I've heard is less unpleasant to squirt into your nasal cavities). This is the easiest one to find for me, locally, anyway. :)
I use the Betadine one consistently for days when I need to go into the office and commute on the train (I also mask), and I also have so far avoided pretty much every illness.

My save-on pharmacy had no idea it existed.
Thank you!
GOT IT.
Anyway! YMMV. I've found it helpful.
