Cried at being left alone the first night, so I grabbed a pillow & slept on the kitchen floor those first few nights. Once given run of the house, the kitchen was her 'safe' room to run to.
The kitten I mentioned (almost 7 now) was very anxious, so we went at her pace.
Got her on a Fri. Turning point came on the Mon after 1st vet check. On coming back home, purred for the 1st time, had a little wander, then returned to the kitchen. Even with door open, it was her base.

This kind of shit is why I burnt out on running a rescue. I never had anything this bad, but man it’s a heartbreaking endeavor sometimes.
My house only has 2 stories, but I still keep the upstairs windows on latches. The gap's only small, but if I have them open in at least 2 rooms, it allows air to circulate & keeps my cats safe.
Any way of getting safety latches installed so they can't be opened any more than 2" (for a fully grown cat) without human intervention?
I don't think I'd trust 4" for an adult. Wouldn't even trust 2" for a kitten, TBH.
TBH it's probably no one's fault, just the worst luck for the window to have been open when she was learning the environment. But still.
I'd never have any animal (much less a new one) free-roaming in a room with a window open enough for them to get through (regardless of screen) if I was 5 stories up.
My upstairs windows are on latches for my cats' safety.
Cats live in a world of scent. I can't imagine bringing a kitten/cat home for the first time without confining it to a single room (no open window) until it had established a comfortable mini territory.
I know she’s absolutely devastated about this!
Shared.
I would be devastated if this happened to me. I hope Wonton has a full recovery. :(
It's like adopting a kid and leaving forks next to every outlet for them.
I know losing my first cat was traumatizing and I'm never letting a cat outdoors ever again.
But to have an open window on a multi story apartment, that’s just irresponsibly foolish and asking for trouble
Just donated.

1 of 3:
Still have Twitter for now, so am trying to keep up with her progress.
Now I just feel sick. That poor baby. Donated and hope they can help her 😭
There must be a few good people left over there for her to stay, I just wish they would all move here instead.
I'm a fan from way back - I've still got a very well worn "do it for him" (Bitty) t-shirt 😋
She's one of the few that I miss since I nuked my account over there.
Obviously she has got a lot to deal with at the moment, but I would love to see her post more over here one day.
People who help rescue cats are always such special people, but Haley really is a cut above the rest and deserves all the help we can give her.
P.S. you get super-extra behavior points for spreading the word to organize help. ❤️
❤️
I donated a little, what I could
I hope she has a full recovery and finds a forever home that will safeguard her better.
Donating…
Just looking for verification
Wanted to verify that the posting on social was in fact connected to the rescue and they weren't being used. This story is heart breaking.
