I wonder why we think the party is still capable of rehabilitation. As it is today, there’s too much moneyed interest in it. Prying dead weight from the seat of influence *and* trying to win the next three election cycles sound like some Herculean work. Isn’t it less effort to start clean?

I’ve pondered this, but there’s a precedent for major party shifts we can learn from: republicans have totally shifted away from the free market, and quite rapidly - democrats sort of need a tea party moment to pull it off and full primary participation though. Otherwise, agreed.
