Umm... last time I checked Bidenomics returned a lot of manufacturing to US and we were concerned that the level of investment of domestic manufacturing in US will leave EU in the dust. Full employment etc.

Now T claims to try for something B already did, and to run US economy to ground in that.

I don’t understand what it means to say that Trump is “unimpressed” that economists criticize his tariff plan. Sanger is not suggesting that Trump has a compelling, or indeed any, counterargument. So why add this word. Why not just have a paragraph laying out the critique made by economists?

Because its not about american manufacturing, its about power. Through tariffs he has control. He can impose them or lift them on a whim. Industries have to beg him to spare their products. A weak insecure man loves making those with real power beg.

This right here. The reporter should suggest Trump may not actually be concerned about the effect of tariffs — instead wants to have a punishment to hold over entire industries.

It’s an alternative, likely explanation fitting his behavior, but reporters generally consider it off limits. So polite!

Manufacturing claim is a red herring that the media follows. Trump wants to fund a sovereign wealth fund with tariff revenues and leases on (timber, oil) and sale of public lands.
