It’s hard to communicate the crisis that’s unfolding and the dangers ahead because a lot of superficial things won’t change. The Netflix will still turn on. Your sports teams will play. You’ll see movies. But the things that make liberal democratic life uniquely stable, secure, & vibrant will decay.

I'd blame Consumerism and social media
and capitalist selfishness
and the fact that anti-psychotics are handed out to anyone "in distress"
That we experience horrors like the early decades of the 20th century, amplified with 21st century technology, is a very real possibility.
They say "It won't be so bad - you just won't be so free."
I'm afraid our government knows too well that giving freedom of opinion w/o freedom of choice is enough to keep most people short of their breaking point.
Give them bread and circuses (and anti-psychotics) and the people will never revolt
They'll rehire them back but then they'll break it again and we'll experience severe disruption to our superficial comforts.

But I also don’t think fear is the driving emotion of today’s politics. Anxiety and anger are imo.
If there's not smoking building yet -- there will be, and the plane is already in the air, fully loaded with terrorists.
The information environment is such a catastrophe right now that many many people will not be able to understand.
