Red=Liberals: Largely the democrat coalition with a bit of the edges off.
Blue= Conservatives: Obvious
Orange = NDP: Bernie style progressives
Light Blue = Bloc Québécois: Quebec separatists
Green=Green: Greens.

Always. In fact, Pierre Trudeau, Justin's far more intelligent & left-leaning father (but equally shit for the indigenous peoples) was originally NDP but realised he'd never be PM if he stayed with 3rd party so went Liberal. NDP have formed provincial or fed minority governments with Libs.

Yes. At times the NDP has been a real socialist party, and at times is more of a social-democratic/progressive party. They are the latter now.

Yes. The Liberal party is centrist, with a shade to the left whereas the New Democrats were more of a Democratic Socialist/Progressive party.

There was a time when the "Progressive Conservatives" under Joe Clarke were more 'left' than the Liberals under corporate lawyer John Turner. Now Canada's Conservative Party is like America's GOP, once a party with some decent politicians in it now utterly corrupted by the far right.

In the past, Ontario has tended to vote for one party provincially, then for the opposite party federally. Although many of us are unhappy they elected Doug Ford (a Conservative); we hope voters here will elect Mark Carney (the Liberal).

Generally the bigger cities (Toronto & some of the outer suburbs, Ottawa, Windsor, Kingston) tend to mostly go Liberal, the more rural riding are more likely to vote Conservative & the north & Hamilton NDP.
