U had state militias. The Treaty of Paris: 1783. The Articles of Confederation were adopted on Nov. 15, 1777 & proved inadequate. The Constitution was signed on Sept. 17, 1787. The slave owners vs abolitionists groups never coalesced and that is what led the Civil War 1861 - 1865.
Although perhaps you cannot predict what will occur in Syria for the reasons you have already stated in your opening remarks, what are your thoughts at the current moment?

Putin is running out of time, his conscripts are failing or surrendering.
Machinery is archaic and broken.
