Autism, while listed in the DSM as a disorder, is better explained as a neurotype comprised of a constellation of traits that diverge from what is currently considered typical. The defining traits are not disordered by nature but pose challenges when attempting to meet expectations of peers.

being hyperliteral & specific here not to contradict but to leave room for everybody
So many of us agree in psychiatry and adjacent fields. I’m privileged to be able to be loud about it without fearing my professional cred will be harmed.
Again none of this is aimed at you. You haven’t said anything like this or anything I disagree with. I’m just putting this here
Also, a lack of explainers that perceived failure to meet self-expections falls under the RSD umbrella. Once I had that piece of info, things were easier.
Between helping my brain chemistry and KNOWING it's just the RSD, I don't bottom out nearly so hard.
I hope your day goes fabulously 🌸
If you have a disability that defines your Autistic experience, that is a valid & clinically relevant CORRELATION tho not a defining feature of Being Autistic
It's time to learn from our trans friends and radically de-medicalize except where it serves us to seek finite resources with the F84.0 code
Apparently anybody can do it if they just pass the right classes.
We’ve known how deadly childhood trauma is for over a quarter of a century, yet we do nothing about it.

“Disorder” is usually associated w negative outcomes, but it’s inherently subjective for describing the actual impacts on each person.
I don't think we can allow ourselves to be DEFINED by disability even if disability defines our experience

thats def a disorder
It's always the minority that is required to change to 'integrate' (assimilate is more sinister) with the majority.
I think once we accept ourselves as we are without masking (this has taken me a LONG time, I'm 58), and we are accepted as we are in general, this will become easier.
Autism disorder (as defined by the DSM) is when those traits, or conditions interacting with them, impede living to a degree classified as a disorder.
This is what a Syndrome Disorder is.
The DSM only covers disorders, not conditions.
And respecting neurodivergent as a socio-political term.
Having red hair is a condition.
A disorder is when your condition is in a state that it requires action to maintain a normal living.
Disorder bc others have to put aside their ego to interact with someone wired differently.
Disorder bc harder to control.
Sounds about right.
I find that being orderly is a function of energy. Often autistic people are so burned out that they don't have the energy to be as orderly as they would normally want to be.
I have CFS so never have the energy to be organised or tidy, and actually...
My autism: I love it when my home and work space and is tidy and organized
My ADHD: LOL, LMAO even
My daughter was recently diagnosen with Aspergers, (they still use the term here) and information like this is a huge help for me in being there for her.
