Folks trying to act cool and aloof about the TikTok ban sound genuinely idiotic. If you don’t get why it’s a devastating and dangerous precedent, that says way more about you than the people lamenting its loss. I learned so much on that app. I saw the funniest shit of my life there. Shit sucks.

Damaging things, sowing chaos, then swooping in as the savior to make others dependent is the modus operandi of a psychopathic, malignant narcissist, Trump. TikTok is dead. Don’t be whipsawed by psychopaths
I’ll bet my money by Mon/Tues.

But beyond that, it was a platform for minorities- POC, queer and trans people, disabled people, so many without a voice elsewhere. But sure, laugh it up, dumbasses.
Skill issue.
This is absolutely it.
This *shutdown* is transparent that its nothing but performative BS. They’re not even pretending otherwise! 🤣
I discovered my neurodivergence there. I closely followed world news I would never have encountered otherwise. It helped me become more passionate about community.

its not being banned because of security risks. its being banned because there are very few things that the usa gov hates more than china and support for ideas it doesnt like.
this does not matter. china could have the strongest privacy protection laws in the world and it *would not fucking matter*. its not the actual reason.
When they get to banning any art that isn't realism, that's when you know we're at the lowest point.
I learned so many things from tiktok:
- cooking skills
- how to tie every knot possible
- 1000s of life hacks
- experienced foreign culture presented by actual citizens
- saw 100s of new music acts before famous
This ban is shutting down people's voice.
be happy tiktok really has a crazy algorythem to keep you on screen.
Btw, your data is being used by the US to sell you products too! Congrats!
And I loved some of the small businesses there!
My heart is broken that we have been silenced & separated from the communities we built.
I'm honestly hoping this becomes a cattleprod to the back side to get a wider ecosystem built out so we can divest from monolithic companies (like Meta and X)
I didn't even use the app for fun, it was one of the few remaining tools capitalism hadn't destroyed.
Zuck used the government as his own personal monopoly-enforcement.
The worst part about it is that you know that everyone is going to fall for it.
in your teens it way cool

THE BILL THAT BANS TIKTOK!
There are 2 cases for banning apps now: 1) if it’s owned by bytedance 2) if the US PRESIDENT deems it bad!!
Trump wants to invade/buy Panama, Greenland, and Canada! Who’s not his opps??
Remember Prohibition, that's all I gotta say.
If Tiktok is eventually back but with meta/X algorithm, for example, honestly it’s as good as dead.
But it'll also just be you and whoever else made a new account, so not a real victory.
Ofc I'm really curious to see how the apps changing if at all 👀
Our ENTIRE government just proved they're in it for the money.
All that unity these last few days, scattered to the wind.
Proves the point ever further.
This is what i mean. People don't get what we lost.
Now if I could only find the other old guy who makes the weird t-shirts 🥲
It was not just an app!!
I tried to download as much as I could but it was only a tiny, tiny fraction of the total there has to be.
The message you get when opening the app is genuinely disgusting.
That said, everything about the ban is incredibly concerning and baldfaced manipulation of economy and information by the US government.
This is yet another page from the fascism playbook: disrupt systems to secure control.
I have no idea if that was fair, and don't really care.
But the salient point is I don't have to enjoy it to find all this incredibly problematic.
Both shoes but both 2 very different use cases, norms, and as a result very different products.
