Daily reminder that the underlying purpose of AI is to allow wealth to access skill while removing from the skilled the ability to access wealth.

Anyway, AI has already stolen friends’ work, and is going to put other people out of work.
I do not think a political party that claims to be the party of workers in this country should be using it. Even for just a silly joke.

With time and training, a neural net deliver access to the sum total of human knowledge.
and no, a neural network cannot "deliver access to the sum total of human knowledge". a NN cannot break the Shannon information limit.
that's just not how any of this works.
The thing about the sum total of human knowledge wasn't meant to be literal, though, just a reference to the fact that if you train your machines on crap, you get crap.
Trained on content scraped randomly from the internet, they offer access to the sum total of human stupidity.
But my point is that usually, people training a real AI try for a quality output. Anything that's scraping social media isn't doing that.
But afaik, that really is just theoretical so far.
AI may be a problem, but the problem the original post refers to is caused by capitalism.
AI has plenty of potential to not cause the issue you speak of.
While training can be energy intense, the resulting models cost far less afterward.
I run an LLM on my home PC using less energy than gaming on the same hardware.

a) Mindless hogs who will consume whatever is put in front of them
b) Their clear inferiors who should be grateful for whatever is put in front of them
c) Both
I'm sorry, we're just going to have to work on the bigotry. You cannot policy or technology away individual bigotry. And systemic solutions can only go so far.
Machines can aid in diagnosis, but not diagnose. And you don't actually need "AI" for that.

Then a comment adds nothing except a whiff of sour negativity without a single redeeming insight.
What you said is demonstrably untrue.
Also, I want tax changes to prevent money from sitting in places where it has no velocity.
But, the phrase in another comment, "corporate art", is a real thing that misuses the word art. Shit graphics is drudgery.
I realise the reality is this would hurt nepobaby fee-fees and get people fired, but I can dream.
Also, newspaper industry would like a word with the complainants.

In no way, shape or form have I heard about this miracle technology being implemented with a different key reason behind it then people with dollar signs in their eyes
I block on site when I see AI art used. And it sure lessens my opinion of orgs when they market with that slop.
It is the Industrial Revolution of our generation
It is propagated to make working-class lives easier BUT it will be used to put us out of jobs
Not just manual laborers but academics bc whoever controls AI controls knowledge
Not more efficient in terms of organizing a society.
