I just want to point out that for everyone sick of hearing about Emilia Perez, 2024 had a truly great movie about the trans experience by a trans person that you should watch

I went to see it twice in the theatre and then watched it a third time at home as soon as I could. It's one of the best films I've ever seen, and even after all this time I STILL find myself thinking about it
You're not a bad ally for failing to connect with a film. But understand that the way these films miss is different. One uses worn, transphobic tropes to tell a story that is mid at best. The other speaks directly to trans people in a way some cis people can't connect with.
I didn't get it at all. It seemed okay at best? Like a very long, avant garde episode of tales from the crypt. I'm told that my ambivalence about this is extremely strange for a transwoman but IDK, what am I going to say? Seemed barely peripheral to my experiences. Neither scary nor moving. Meh.
And I think it’s very accessible to anyone—if anything it might be a Gen X/millennial movie, but I don’t think that the particular nostalgia in it will deny anyone access, and that the experiences are largely general enough for all
Also I can’t talk/think about it too much or I will cry. It’s such a message of hope speaking to desperation and it’s a Lot and I think that message can speak to anyone

So that’s at least two truly great films.
