Me: sorry, kids, but your friends are wrong. The Tooth Fairy died in WWII, fighting in France. Capitalism kept her alive. Well, this house fights that's tyranny, and accepts her brave sacrifice
Kids get approx 52 including baby teeth! Plus parent has their own 32 to deal with! That’s 136 if nobody grows extra teeth! Which happens!!! Wtf too many teeth
I grew a few extra teeth accidentally once. Then, after realizing how much fun extra teeth could be, I grew another four above and beyond the arbitrary number of teeth confirmists grow ( on average)
Grow teeth guys, just to resist.
Yeah, but you have extra teeth. Think about it. You could live vicariously through your full mouthed children in apple eating competitions (( good prize money apparently) weeding or dental plaster sculptures
If you ever start running out my strat is to go to the local dentist and just ask for some extras. They're pretty friendly, and they keep an extra stash around to grind up whenever the coke runs out
thank god i'm from a country where dentists are free! i also live in a country where they're not free, but covered by the statutory health insurance 🙏🏻
that's the only reason i would have kids. otherwise i would just learn how to be a dentist on youtube
The amount of literal butthurt that two assholes can generate in five years (ten total, just so you know) exceeds tooth related butthurt by a factor of around three
Yeah...I only go to the dentist about once a decade. My teeth are super messed up, but no cavities at least. TBH, I take way better care of my cat's teeth. She gets yearly dentals.
As a 4x cat momma I've spent almost $3000 on cat teeth in the last few years (my oldest needed to see a dental specialist two years ago and will need another cleaning soonish, and my second oldest just had his first cleaning earlier this month). I cannot imagine paying for human teeth.
Upside, Archie has a cute bootie on his footie right now. And his breath no longer stinks so when he washes the girls' heads he doesn't make them stinky.
68 is half of your 136. You said two children with 136. By your own count 20 baby teeth and 32 possible adult teeth make 52 teeth per child, times two is 104 teeth. Why are we adding the 32 teeth for one parent? I love you blond cat, but I don’t understand your math.
No doubt. Just yesterday I had the final stage of an implant put in. Just the new tooth part was over $2,500. In total it was like $6k just for that ONE tooth that went bad. Not including the 2 root canals I had on it years prior. Luxury bones, indeed. It’s obscene.
After much pain & spending many thousands of dollars trying to "save" my teeth at the insistence of a dentist, I did the same thing. I'm hoping to one day be able to afford implants.
I've got two chipped teeth right now and it's been cheaper for me to down gabapentin every time chewing with one wide of my mouth fails me than to get them fixed. -_- Unfortunately this could literally kill me
Teeth are so expensive that I still have a baby tooth at 33. It's finally crumbling away into a stump. I just hope I can find enough work to finally pull it before any decay starts up the root 🥴.
It's a canine and the adult tooth won't come down on its own now, so I'll have a gap. Fun times.
Yup! Mine did the same thing, hence it never coming down. Me, my sister, and my mom all had stubborn baby teeth. The roots never dissolved. I had to have 8 pulled before this one, while my sister had 12 pulled. I turned 19 and aged out of my parents insurance before this last one could be. 🥲
I’m torn between sarcastically thanking you for the nightmare fuel, and seriously thanking you for teaching me a new word.
(Not-So-Fun Fact: I had 1 too many baby teeth, and 1 too few adult teeth…but rather than ad an implant, my orthodontist just ignored that space. So I have 2 extra half-spaces.)
Pretty much, yeah. It just looks kind of silly…or, rather, it would look okay if it was natural, but considering my parents spent a ton of money on orthodontics (braces) and it looks like that anyway, it looks kind of pretty silly.
In terms of how it got rearranged…this is kind of icky, but basically, the way braces work is they slowly move your teeth into a position different from the position they started in. And that can be practical (fixing overcrowding or misalignment), cosmetic (making your teeth look more even) or both.
I spent so much on my daughter’s teeth, I could have bought a compact car. Instead, she has straight teeth & fillings (her teeth have some weird condition where they’re missing patches of enamel so = cavities = $$$)
My gums have decided to revolt no matter how nicely I treat them, and they fall under the mouth bones insurance blanket, which means it's insanely expensive to have anything done to repair.
We are lucky - my dentistry is covered by our healthcare that is funded from general taxation … including all my kids braces and stuff.I don’t know how you all afford it either xx
Jortsie my darling, mesiodens are the tip of the iceberg! My Ma had extreme hyperdontia - a FULL SECOND SET of her bottom teeth grew under her tongue and had to be extracted. Before the NHS (G-d bless Nye Bevan). No wonder they never got buying a house
I am a human parent with two kids—luckily we have the NHS, as both mine get free orthodentistry! (Spouse’s teeth are large—so some needed removing to prevent overcrowding)

Hahaha all of my wisdom teeth were extracted perfectly whole, and I saved them to make buttons with but my BFF -- who is the wife of a dentist! -- put her foot down :)
And as if to add insult to injury when the baby teeth start to make their appearances everyone gets miserable and you have to spend MORE money on special baby Tylenol and apparatuses to hold frozen grapes
Here’s a fun fact for you, Jorts— adult humans have 32 teeth and adult cats have 30, but human kids only have 20 teeth and kittens have 26. So cats actually have more total teeth than people over the course of the teeth cycle.

Them: So no money
Me: No *salutes, and walks out of room*
Mom: you give em the poverty speech
Me: yep

But vet is right to be concerned, dental disease can cause pain and big health problems down the road.
Anyway I’m sure she will be fine with just one kidney. 😻

Second mortgage for to pay the orthodontist.

...has anyone told you about how much Seeing can cost, though? 😵💫👓

Also did you know they can decide to just grow sideways?
Nasty little things
(Not-So-Fun Fact: I had 1 too many baby teeth, and 1 too few adult teeth…but rather than ad an implant, my orthodontist just ignored that space. So I have 2 extra half-spaces.)
I just try not to think about it.
Any other bones exposed to that much open air would be much, much more expensive.

Also, I get to have some lovely jewelry made up!
