FYI, Amazon will no longer enable the downloading of ebooks to exterior devices starting February 26th.
Here’s a tutorial on how to download your ebooks off of Amazon. You can use Calibre (free software) to reformat the kindle books to be used on other devices.

Maybe some of the big publishers do, but they play by different rules.

I heard that similar things work with Overdrive library rentals through Amazon, but I prefer to acquire DRM free ePub books and avoid the issue
