Basically the Vees deck are mostly the Antagonistic Demons, Adam deck be Heavens forces, Blitzø be Supporting and Protagonistic characters from Helluva Boss, Charlie be Protagonistic and Supporting characters from Hazbin Hotel.
Make Universes Beyond it’s own entry point into Magic. Similar to the Starter product line. Bring people in to give them a taste, let them be Commander legal only, and when ready jump into Magic IP/tournament play.
No one in charge is gonna give me that kind of power but I’ll bite. I would orchestrate the deaths of anyone who stands in my way and then turn WotC in a worker’s cooperative.
As a real CEO? More of the same. Whatever they’ve been doing has been working for the company/shareholders. Selfishly? I ink a multi-year deal with Marvel, print four “standard” sets a year in that IP, and support an MCU-only format (new format, not replacing anything). Also, print to demand SL.
introduce my homebrew monster to the Monster Manual and bring back the Dark Sun campaign setting as an explicit indictment of capitalism, fascism, and climate denialism
Bake in a percentage of realised improvements to your contract :) I worked somewhere that brought in a sales coaching guy who would take a percent or two of increased sales for the next couple of years. Very very basic advice, but packaged well so the sales folks actually did some of it.
Make Masters a yearly reprint set, but keep the packs affordable priced so that needed reprints can be readily available at more reasonable aftermarket prices.
Pinpoint as many audiences as I can (casual/midcore/competitive players, collectors, store owners, content creators etc,) and figure out how they're feeling about the game right now. See what these different audiences like and hate, and what keeps them in the Magic ecosystem. Can act from there.
This is the reality. The CEO of Hasbro is akin to the coach of a sports team. A very strong, trusted coach might have a certain amount of leeway if the team as a whole is financially healthy, but at the end of the day, their job is to enact the will of the GM, owner, etc.
1) Secret lairs back to PoD, or a hybrid.
2) At least one Magiccon in Europe and one in Asia-Pacific each year.
3) *i suspect this may be happening already* 3rd DnD/MtG crossover set.
1.Change the current format secret lair. Instead make it temporary print on demand, one per user, etc
2.One set per quarter, do some starter decks, 2 commander deck per set.
3. Foils should be super rare, even in collector booster.
4. Ask users more often what they want!
5. Make collector boosters what they should be ! Hence only a print at the launch of a new set that's it. Make the chase cards be chase cards !
6.Use DnD licence more ! Such rich worlds! Ex:Launch the new DnD, they should have made a magic set at the same time
Oh yeah I’d rule that we get access to companions like the witches do (they’re so cool), then I’d outlaw time magic because it just spells problems and then-oh you mean the company :/
Now. I’m not saying I couldn’t stop myself from inserting my OCs into official properties BUT HEAR ME OUT-
No but really I think I’d on the dnd side sit there and invoke the “home slices you’ve multiversed these settings together. DO SOMETHING WITH THAT. Let them mingle. ANYTHING”
MTG Side only: Get actual numbers of the cost/sales/popularity of products/projects. Figure out what did/didn’t worked and why.
Meet with everybody to figure out what we can/want to do with the game. What is the best vision forward for us (as WotC) and the players for the long term? Explain to fans
I'd probably do everything within my power to see if there is some way to divest WotC From Hasbro (a spin-off, split-off, or *something*). I think in the long term that's the only way to protect WotC's brands.
Next I'd reduce the number of releases each year to let playtesting do their job & reduce the opportunity for another Nadu. Start by going to 1 UB Standard set release a year since those are unpopular with the loud enfranchised player base.
Lastly, I'd aim to kill any internal AI initiatives.
This isn’t actually hard. You take care of those who make game sustainable, you protect the creatives from the corporate goons and you support the people that are the base that purchase the product
Confine Universes Beyond to Secret Lair reskins (PoD) and use Foundations as a model for making more sets themed around being a wizard who summons fantasy creatures. Make Standard the focal point and point of entry and make commander an annual release of four cool decks. And no more Masters sets.
the campaign and board game were products that bore the dragonlance label, yes, but had nothing to do with the setting as it existed. The three new novels I helped write =)
i am! i have a full page special thanks in all three. I helped create the plot, check the canon lore, provide all the setting data, names and characters, etc etc.
I'm basically the world's expert in dragonlance.
I’m of the mind that Tainted Pact and Consultation have their niche in a fast format, whereas Thoracle makes the most boring games of Magic possible. Still, either set of cards is fine imo
I agree the Thoracle win is boring, I just think those two shouldn’t be allowed to function against the spirit of their design (ie a tutor should get a card, not mill your deck out). I would have less of a problem if it was an instant that actually said “mill your entire library.”
Get rid of the Reserved List and make a set called "Magic Masters" where the most emblematic MTG cards are reprinted. Each booster will be 5€ and you can get a Lotus/Mox/OG duals and much more as Mythic rares and a lot of more awesome cards as Rares.
Getting rid of that pesky reserve list and printing a draft/cube product where the cards are then only legal in commander. Also at a reasonable price point.
Community out reach. Reinstate FNM promos. Have a competitive system with trackable points similar to DCI’s. Rank points aligned with cared rarity. Common: FNM
Uncommon: RCQ/store level tournaments
Rare: Magic/SCG cons/RC
Mythic: pro tour, worlds, etc. wotc level events.
Hire in-house writers to manage the games lore ahead of card design. Invest in an in-house art curator.
Ban MARO from discussing anything other than game design on blogatog. No product reaction via internal data nothing. He’s not paid for that.
Limit UB to a two year cycle.
Go back to blocks but two per set to increase density of unique mechanics.
Define what a commander specific design is and give them a unique physical indicator (similar to acorns) so that commander precons are mostly standard legal including commanders.
Scale back product launch. Sell secret lairs through LGSs. Remove UB from standard all UB sets are only eternal legal. End the MH line replace it with Double Masters. Magic 31 full set of Beta with alt backs cost 100 bucks.
Or...malicious compliance with the C.E.O. of Hasbro. Whichever.
Spend the day in my office having panic attacks and diarrhea'ing every hour because I just went from a shmuck painting on cards to the CEO of a company and now its MY fault every time wizards makes a bad decision...
In house writing team that works off the mechanical designs of R&D, cut back to 3-4 sets a year, UB is 1/year commander only product, stories remain on the same plane for at least 2 sets, abolish reserve list.
Find a way to break away from Hasbro, restructure the leadership team by placing people who care about the games in leadership roles, redefine the reserved list to state the art will never be reprinted but the game pieces will be, and setup a cleaner structure for releases for both MtG & D&D.
My first thought honestly went to "bring back banned as ___". I want my goofy little guy playable in the 99 of my elemental deck. Sure I can rule 0 but that's a pain sometimes.
End the reserved list, starting with a series of "level up" packages sold as expansions for preconstructed commander decks. These would include things like full sets of original dual lands and fetches, mana rocks and other staples. Each card would have a chance to be a fancier version
I'd last about 2 days before the shareholders got rid of me, as I junked all the ridiculous ways WotC tries to gouge its customers. Back to 1 large, 2 small sets a year, no Secret Lairs or UB, no different types of foiling. Roll back on power creep. Basically back to the early 2000s.
Try to find a way to let off the gas a bit with the amount of product, though until product fatigue actually impacts sales I don't know how to go about justifying that :/
Scrap Project Booster Fun as it is now in favor of bringing some level of cohesion back to Magic and making special cards seem "special" and not just "different." Separate out Universes Beyond into something more akin to the original Deckmaster idea. License out the rules system to other companies.
No more reserve list, but still keep it limited. Power 9 to Grand Prix/Pro Tour/Worlds top 8. Maybe 1-2 cards per person. Duel lands to Secret Lair on a limited run. Other reserve list cards as FNM promos here and there. It’s time for this imo.
As for MtG, I'd separate lands into a different pile, have players draw 4 from the "spellbook" and 3 from the "landfill" (no mulligan, things would be too consistent), then players could draw 1 from either during Upkeep.
Abolish the reserve list and reprint every 100+ dollar card until its like 20 cents or less while still having alt frames and special treatments for collectors.
1) Cap the average number of words per card in a set at 23 words.
2)Repeal the reserve list and seed cards in as special guest over the next 10 years.
3) begin distributing secret lairs through LGS. Buy online pickup at store (who gets a cut)
4) Allocate substantial resources to LGS play
I proceed to make the worst, infuriating, & hilariously bad decisions in the history of MTG w/ the hopes of cratering the market value of WOTC so the players can buy the rights ala Netrunner
But like “The Producers” all my decisions bring accidental record profits & the ire of enfranchised players
Comments
Have the Face for the Vees be all 3 Vees on 1 card but They all have a Mono Color single Card in the 99.
(my homebrew)
Meet with the lowest paid people, and ask them what's broken, and how they'd fix it.
They don't always know the solutions, but they always see the cracks.
I'm content just being paid for my time.
And first magic youtuber to ceo of wizards.
Heck of a year

(I didn't want to do a depressing answer)
And uhh then figure out a universes within set so that people will be less mad when the second thing I do is add Freddy Krueger to the game.
It was a failing to stop supporting your biggest group of volunteers
Second, move the Return to Lorwyn set back to 2025.
Third, bring back blocks.
Fourth, bring back MSRP for ALL products, not just certain ones.
Fifth, return Secret Lairs to occasional print-to-order sets and cut full set production by 50%.
I'm basically the world's expert in dragonlance.
ban eminence
purge all departments of any ai
Only then will changes be made
Then abolish the reserved list, commission an OG dual land set by Alayna Danner and quit so I don't have to talk to more people.
Uncommon: RCQ/store level tournaments

And then send the first Marvel Secret Lairs to second printing :)
How about you gather with your family instead!

Or...malicious compliance with the C.E.O. of Hasbro. Whichever.
I'd also print a Nadu Secret lair.
Mostly joking
actual answer: listen to shareholders at hasbro
Then
Lower the commander life total to 30. Fix the oldest mistake in that format.
Dual lands on the RL is the longest standing mistake in Magic and should be rectified.
Then, tell Hasbro to stop strangling the golden goose to scare it into laying faster.
I would last less than a day.
Also, Aetherdrift in portuguese for the same reasons
