Yep. This also explains the bizarre focus on linguistic changes.
A wealthy, middle-aged political pundit cannot imagine being forced to move states to access HRT but he can imagine someone scolding him about misusing they/them pronouns. It's anxiety and animosity all the way down.

this gets to the point i keep making. to the media elites who are obsessed with anti-wokeness, something like mass deportation is a total abstraction whereas they are annoyed, on a daily basis, by their supposedly “woke” younger colleagues and social media antagonists

But other white people cheering for the deportation of the people Latinx is describing is actually fucking dangerous.
Americans need to learn that annoying is never as bad as dangerous.
But OMG people aren’t allowed to CRITICIZE them! That would make them ever so mildly uncomfortable for a few minutes!

It's important to point out to them that they are the ones being thin-skinned about correction, not the people who want them to use the right pronouns.
You are right that they are children about it.
At least the idealized (white) version of those states that they demand you also agree with

Beat Journalists are to report what they see / experience in an impartial manner w/o analysis.
Investigative Journalists are to report deeply on an issue / event w/historical context & sometimes, analysis.
And that’s it.
What makes you functionally different from a right winger? Why aren't you scolding them and telling them they're being off-putting?
(It didn't help that I think I initially saw it either in all-caps or with people who don't capitalize anything, though.)
"So... which part was the 'screaming'?"
Don't throw away democracy over that process.
Precise language can be helpful in a lot of ways. I’m happy I can email a stranger ‘ms. ‘ instead of trying to figure out if they’re married or not. People take offense to things that are completely harmless
2 it doesn’t matter if they personally know someone like that, it’s said very often in social and traditional media. It’s not like the right is making it up, their made up stories do way worse than look at leftists ones
I live in Austin, work in a stereotypically lefty profession, and encounter “Latinx” in a non-ironic way maybe twice a year.
