The fact that the only way most politicians, press and pundits can any make sense of the right's obvious slide into fascism is by drawing these wildly uneven parallels is just unbelievably corrosive.
What happened to Foer? Everything he writes these days is completely at odds with the truth. He wrote this in January, after Kamala Harris (not Biden) lost to Trump by less than 2% of the vote.
Sadly, at any left wing protest, you could find a small number of anti semites trying to spread hatred
While at any right wing protest, like Jan 6th, you'll find a large number of anti semites trying to spread hatred. Trump pardoned them. How many articles has the Atlantic written about that?
If I were an AS, and you told me Jews were going to leave my country to kill kids, rape prisoners, dance in dead ladies’ underwear and insist that all of that was the purest essence of Judaism and anyone saying otherwise was a fake Jew…
Sadly, they adopted the bullshit IHRA definition of antisemitism so now they can call proteating against israel 'antisemetic'
i have been to dozens of protests all year and never met an actual antisemite .. of course they exist but i think youll find the people being called that are not actually
My research has been spotty but I am reasonably certain that every publicly reported act of violence against a Jewish student incident to the protests was an act of violence committed *against* the protesters, many of whom were Jewish students.
Antisemitism is always unacceptable, unless it’s coming from your side of the aisle I guess. Yeah it wasn’t like CUAD/CUAP explicitly condoned Hamas killing Israeli civilians on their shitty little substack or anything.
Nazi salutes in the context of kidnapping enemies without due process and paying foreign governments to imprison them
In labor camps with no clear exit. Like will someone please finally connect the culture war piece to the policy piece and go ahead and call em Nazis? Please?
Because anyone who still supports Netanyahu or IOF is also a Nazi. MAGA and Netanyahu are both fascist regimes engaging in genocide. They cover for each other, and are working in lock-step. Goose-step, even.
4. Oligarch-own3ed Zombie Fourth Estate doesn't give a fuck and is running with the anti-semitism angle because they like the kkkristofascism and the profitable promise of autocratic plutocracy.
Numbers 2 and 3 are *far* more important to focus on than #1.
*Every* protest movement against injustice has included people with dumb or odious views; that's how large groups work. The Gaza genocide is indefensible on the merits and articles like this only aid the Trump Admin's crackdown.
The use of antisemitism as a cudgel, by virulent right-wing antisemites, also serves to use Jews as a buffer/scapegoat for any backlash, as special treatment fuels conspiracy theories.
I first thought it was just a way to disguise their views but these fascists know exactly what they're doing.
The real end game is to defund public education & privatize it. 47 & DOGE are destroying the Ed dept. Columbia receives federal funds. #Project1980 & #Project2025 call for deregulation & privatization of ALL agencies & depts. Everything merges to state, creating a dictatorship. #KochPlatformof1980
And let's not pretend like Trump et al. aren't bigger antisemites! They're the ones pushing Great Replacement, "Jews control the media," "Jews control the banks," etc. The right-wing has picked a convenient issue with Israel, but they detest Jews to a level the Left doesn't even approach.
No one seems to be reporting on the fact that Khalil’s dean, Dr. Keren Yarhi-Milo, head of the School of International and Public Affairs, (the school Khalil graduated from) is a former Israeli military intelligence officer and official at Israel’s Mission to the United Nations.
That's actually an in-depth excellent article. He is critical of Trump, but he also gives a history of Jewish students at Columbia and the changing milieu post Edward Said. It's worth a read.
Columbia has already caved to mild political pressure the hardest I've ever heard of an academic institution caving. Are they still piling on to produce an operant conditioning effect?
Which matches the incentives for someone primarily interested in maintaining Israel’s status quo. Pro Palestinian campus speech, which points to moral truth, is the greater threat, regardless of the powerlessness of each individual messenger

Pro-Israel complains about "micro-aggressions"
Jewish students make up about 30% of the anti-genocide movement around the country.
They are horrified at what Israel is doing in the name of Judaism.

1. A small contingent of Gaza protestors have antisemitic views.
2. The protests overall are driven by opposition to mass murder, not antisemitism.
3. Conservatives are using "campus antisemitism" as a cudgel to imprison protestors & delegitimize universities

"But, I have this hammer, and so..."

It was true when Hamas did it in Israel.
It is true when the IDF does it in Gaza.
It is that simple.
..clearly antisemitism exists, but the government adopted new defintions of antisemitism to criminalize the protests
https://johnmenadue.com/why-is-israel-such-a-big-deal/
"The Go8 definition of antisemitism is to be reviewed in 12 months. We need to organise."
ive been reading peoples posts about how they werent even part of the protests so why me
"first they came for protestors, but i was not a protestor.... " you know how the rest goes
