there are a lot of people who are determined to see every single outcome as the worst possible outcome and it's just not true. thune winning majority leader is legitimately one of the better outcomes. it's all relative, it won't be good, but rick scott would have been objectively much worse

thune winning the majority leader battle easily in the first round might suggest that senate republicans aren't quite ready to kneel to trump's every single demand, because that's exactly what scott was promising to do. might also just be that everyone hates rick scott.

I think people are also taking a bit too much for granted what an even-narrower House GOP majority can do. They can obviously do plenty! But even Trump in the 2024 GOP cannot hold them together on everything. Or potentially even more things.
On the other hand, the senate gives randos from empty states the egos of ancien regime aristocrats.
