The 'Buy Canadian' movement is sending new ripples of concern through the executive offices of US-based consumer companies that banked on selling their products on Canadian retail shelves https://reut.rs/3Y8EZqE

This is about Trump's constant threats to economically crush and annex 🇨🇦. One food bank received 500kg of unsold 🇺🇲 produce over 4 weeks. 🇨🇦 company Loblaws is investing $10B in expansion in 🇨🇦 retail. It takes 30 days to change buying habits, 🇨🇦 is over that threshold. Boycott 🇺🇲.
Yes, checking labels has become habit now. And getting opportunities to try Canadian products I didn’t know were out there ♥️ For me, this is likely a permanent shopping habit, so he’s done long term damage.
I found Bliss Balls made in Burnaby BC and now I don't think I can live without them. I am driving across 🇨🇦 in April - anything that is local and must try from your province?
"A dramatic reshuffling of Canada's retail shelves illustrates the impact of patriotic consumerism in Canada, which imported nearly $350 billion of products from the [US] in 2024 ..."
To play on Springsteen's lyrics from "My Hometown",
"Those consumers are going, boys, and they ain't coming back."
Good, message received then. Elections have consequences. Actions have consequences.
Bad news, it will be very very very hard to undo now. And you can't even start until all the trade actions initiated against Canada are fully and permamently reversed.
I call on all citizens of the world to boycott US products. We are in the grip of fascists. Don't support our lunatic billionaires, please. Yes, it's our fight, the sane people that are left in the US but we need everyone's help choking off their funding.
Australian here, last year I purchased several US products but no longer. I need new vacuum cleaner & discovered 2 brands I looked at were made in US. I won’t buy either and I’ll buy British or German instead #BoycottUS.
Dyson’s equipment is made mainly in Malaysia, supplemented by production facilities in China and Mexico to ensure efficient distribution and cost management across different markets.
Proper globalist
Good. The only way to make this kleptocratic tyranny listen is if the international markets dry up entirely. As an American, I am begging the rest of the world, DO NOT buy American. Don't buy our products, don't go see Disney movies, don't spend money on American companies at all if you can help it.
If you’re a union member, talk to your leadership time to start pushing for a national strike from all unions. Stop this race to the bottom.
You’ll get blown off, but keep pushing. Get to those union meetings. I know it’s been a while, but show up! Never under estimate the power of just showing up
It isn't just Buy Canadian in Canada. It's Buy Non-US in lots of places. How many countries has Trump insulted? How many countries had tariffs increased?
They will ALL buy less US made goods and buy more of their own and other Non-US.
Canadian Rye is delicious.
Lots of Canadian goods at grocery outlet and the dollar stores. I’ll continue to stand with the democracy to our north whether we continue to be a democracy or not. Don’t buy Kentucky bourbon.
U.S. citizen here who will go out of my way to buy Canadian products because our leaders are scary authoritarians who want to invade everyone. Vive la Canada!
If they don't like it they can use their lobbying resources to put pressure on all their bought and paid for lawmakers to impeach the felon. We won't relent as long as he's in office!
Gee, gosh. I wonder what happened? I mean you'd HAVE TO do something STUPID like threaten tariffs to get other countries to NOT wanna do business with you. NObody'd be THAT stupid, would they? I mean, c'mon. They'd just be stating a trade war. NObody wins a trade war!
I'm the CEO of a company and I've been explaining to American manufacturers and distributors that unfortunately Canada has to look for more stable suppliers and trading partners.
I’ll be blunt and crude: fuck the US companies.
Reality: figures say, 40% of American support his economic policy. And 48% support *him*.
While 30% of Americans didn’t vote for him, 30% did. Another 30% supported by not voting. And bet a lot of that 30% would have voted for him
Fix yourselves
34's hard aggressions against Canada didn't start until after the election. He knew it was not a winning issue, but he figured a hard sell after he was elected would make it popular. He's failed. His aggressions poll very low, including among a sizeable chunk of Maga.
I figure he's being told what to say, as his own ideas are almost exclusively about himself. He doesn't give a hoot about the relative popularity of his issues. Just needs his ass to be kissed publicly and frequently.
Same, and I have found some amazing Canadian products that better than what I was buying before. Now I look at every single product I purchase. Canadian or not at all. #ElbowsUp
Now we need to put MEGA pressure on our large chain stores to get more 🇨🇦 products on our shelves at eye level. Never stop! Why were we shooting ourselves in the foot out of habit anyway??? https://Canshoponline.ca
Where possible no one should buy American. Boycott the US, boycott US airlines, goods, services. Buy Canadian, buy European, buy anything but US (& Russian).
This movement is a grass roots 🇨🇦 citizen movement, not from the government. Citizens have been pressuring the government which is especially relevant right now in a 🇨🇦 federal election. Also pressuring businesses - I am enjoying clementine oranges from Spain instead of 🇺🇲. ❤️🇨🇦
It's not your fault though. For decades you've been fed a diet of American exceptionalism, and the rest of the world being desperate to be American. Now, that facade is crumbling and realism is coming to American people.
Hey Canada, it's still a "ripple of concern" not a panic recognition. Time to reach out to your family members, friends and co-workers and convince them to get behind the boycott.
Find one of these pins and wear it as a sign of pride in your country. I give out dozens every time I'm shopping
I’ve been doing this for the past two months. I didn’t realize how I had been mindlessly choosing U.S. products. I’m finding local options that are fresher and the price isn’t much more. I’m not going back. Certainly not now that the U. S. has defunded regulatory bodies. Breton crackers are great!
One thing that I’ve learned with this though, is Canada clearly needs improvements on their labels. It’s not always clear where product is imported from/where the ingredients are sourced. Regulations definitely left some grey area for these businesses and not in best interest of consumers.
💯 This is still fairly recent. I think that it might take some time for Canadian manufacturers to adjust their packaging even if they are doing it voluntarily.
Dare is a family owned Canadian company from Kitchener Ontario. They have 5 plants in Canada and three in the US. So let them know you want products made in Canada!
It’s weird that the whole arrogant “buy American or else” has been really good business for Canada. We buy completely Canadian and everyone I know is too. It’s really not hard.
Canadian's are polite until you piss us off, and then we aren't. The Orange Felon's threats to annex Canada and his tariffs pissed us off. We have united in buying Canadian and/or pretty much anywhere but USA!! 💪🇨🇦💪
CEOs supported Trump because they thought he would be good for business. They pretended not to hear all his insane ideas about destroying the economy. Having a madman in the White House is bad for everyone.
I am vehemently only buying Canadian. It is quite an experience to be shopping and checking every label, and then to see almost every shopper doing the same thing. Store announcements are encouraging us to buy Canadian and look for the 🇨🇦. It’s a movement.
From a consumer perspective, I can't help but feel that Trump's behaviour has triggered a permanent 'off' switch for many of us. So many of the people I know (UK) are going out of their way not to buy American, the tariffs almost become irrelevant. He can lift them all, but we still won't buy.
Glad to see most of it seems to be mostly replaceable with an alternative non-US product however I fear some things might be priced out for those who can't buy the alternative products.
My goodness this many products go over there and this orangutan wants to create his hermit kingdom 🤦♂️
I feel like that point is being missed entirely. I will forever boycott US merchandise as much as possible. There’s no going back. Tariffs are one thing, but the threat to our sovereignty is unforgivable.
I agree, I’d love to see someone in the mainstream press in the UK publish a guide on what US products to easily avoid. It’s not always that easy to tell where the ultimate owners are from. Tesla is an easy one of course but others less so.
I've been thinking for a few weeks about what I actually buy that has US content.
For most of us, it's online services which make up the overwhelming majority of our US-sourced consumption: Apple, Netflix, X, Instagram, Amazon, Google etc.
But there seem to be surprisingly few US goods. I'm sure there's some US corn syrup or similar which gets into some of my food. There's probably US IP embedded in some of the goods I buy produced elsewhere
Apart from that, the main thing I came up with was Weber barbecues (which are excellent!)

I mean there is no way we can completely avoid them but there must be quite a few things where there is a readily available alternative? For example Walkers snacks are easily avoidable (owned by Pepsi).
Yes, you're right: you do need to think about corporate ownership carefully! Coke and Pepsi own a lot.
Luckily, it the particular example of Walkers, I've never had any difficulty avoiding them.
I don't do the fast food/coffee shop outlets, anyway. Am not buying from Amazon, Heinz/Kraft, Kelloggs, Gillette, J&J, P&G, Coca/Pepsi Cola brands, Mondelez/Cadbury, Kimberly-Clark, US clothing. Harder to boycott tech - maybe there's a lesson in that, for the development of alternatives?
So frustrating. Europe gifted the World Wide Web and Linux (still by far the most stable & pretty much all of Elon's stuff depends on it) and the Americans monetised everything created from them. Now their AI is thieving other people's content & creativity. Enough already - they need disrupting.
Been getting the majority of my groceries from the farmers market nearby for a few months now. It’s been great. Most everything I have is local, if not Canadian. Still buying some international products from friendly countries just not from the US
Wait… supporting and voting for a cult that will alienate your customers for their own gains isn’t working out well for businesses? I’m shocked! They really thought they were voting for “republicans”, didn’t they?
Price-controls are coming. First in auto-sector. Sounds nice to consumer, but means companies eat the tariff and leads to layoffs and inventory shortage. Trump will extend price-control on more as midterms near, further ruining business. Americans not rich enough to cover losses.

Not sorry. The CEOs who supported this regime must feel every punch they can.

Gotta admit the coffee crunch bar was delicious 😋 & I’m looking fwd to wearing my new hat. 🤗 Still trying to rally behind the ketchup chips though. 😝
Thank you! ☺️
Keep it up and be RELENTLESS, #Canada!🇨🇦

That would be $43,160,000,000

Tariffs that hurt our economy and workers are cruel, but it's Trump's threats to our *sovereignty* and nat'l security that make my boycott permanent.

#AmericaShow #Republican suckers.
Find alternatives to American produce where possible. Trump and his daft followers need to learn that the world doesn't begin and end with America.
